ok i posted last night that my 67 camaro with a 5.3 and ls1 intake starts but idles up over 2000 rpm immediatly then after a minute or so starts to make its way back down to around 700 but something isnt right. im only pulling about 6 inchs of vacuum according to my gauge i hooked up and when i hit the gas it almost dies. im really really confused right now. i sprayed carb cleaner everywhere and didnt find much. the only placce i see it idle up when i drench it is around the throttle body. but its not but maybe a couple hundred rpm and i gotta seriouisly soak it down to get it to idle up any so im not sure if thats even it. so where all is the most common vacuum leaks. also what scanner tool do i need so i can check all of my sensors and make sure like the maf and everything is working right. who figures this one out ill buy a case of beer lol. if you need more info just ask any help is greatly appreciated

oh yeah also getting a code on the scanner that says the map sensor performance. i figure its cause im not getting enough vacuum though

Check behind the intake under the big vacuum hose that go to the brake booster there is a small hose under there plug it up . Hope that will help

Also check for any cracked or broken nipples on the back of the intake. Also check the ears around the bolt holes for your TB on the intake to make sure they're not cracked or broken.

dont see anything but hard to tell. i may just buy a whole new intake tb setup to see if maybe i have a cracked intake

Make sure the IAC functions and your intake gaskets are sealing

Mine was a bad IAC, at startup itd run great for 1-3 seconds then jump and hold 2500rpms

With the proper scaner you should be able to read the iacs numbers.

Depends on what you call "cheap." I'm using an Innova 3160 which I think is a "cheap" scanner but it is $260. This scanner doesn't have all the functions of the higher priced portables (Snap-on, etc), or software (HP Tuners or EFI Live) but it has more than paid for itself with the stuff I do. There are much less expensive methods to simply read and reset codes but they don't do ABS, live data or data logging. Live data and data logging is pretty helpful for finding intermittent problems and things that don't trigger an SES light.
