Switch to a 3.55 gear and stop driving 80.

I have a CARB'd 5.3 and a GTO T56 with 3.73's (this works out to the same as a F-body T56 with 4.10's) and I get 18ish around town, and 23mpg on the highway even at 80mph

so yeah, I think something is a little off

I get between 13 and 20 city/highway. But I also have a 60e and 3.73 gears. Usually get 16-20 on the highway spinning 2500 at 70mph. I do feel that I should be getting better mileage too though.

I'm in the 16 - 17 city and 26 - 27 highway. 2000 5.3 with LS1 intake, 4L60E, 3.27 gears, heavy car with decent aero and a heavy right foot.

I really need to make a run without getting on it at all and see where I am but I haven't been able to pull that off yet.

I have that same problem. The LS1 powers are addictive. Having said that I manage 23 mpg average overall driving doing a minimum of at least one WOT launch ever outting. 3750 lb(with me in it) 60's box Stock LS1 4l60E 3.08 rear 1900 rpm at 70 mph.

I have stock 99 LS1 with a LS6 intake, Headers, 2 1/2 Flowmaster exhaust system, 4.11 rear, 275.40.17 tires, with a Viper T56 and at Highway speds of around 70+mph I get around 23mpg. this is with tach'in around 2k (65mph = 1750rpm)

I would say you either need to keep your feet off of both the brakes and gas pedals or get a tune.. no reason you should be in the 20's..

good luck.

You need a good tune....and a lighter foot....I'm at almost 24..actually 23.6 when I checked Saturday...put my foot in it once or twice....haven't really long hauled it on the highway yet. 3:55 rear on a 25 inch tall tire...70MPH at 2200 rpm......3200 pound car.

They are fun to stomp the **** out of though......
