Default Difference? msd 6010 question

For my conversion i am looking into getting the msd 6010 box. When i looked it up i found one box is black with 2 plugs and one is red with the one plug! both according to summit, jegs, and ebay are all the same part numbers of 6010. Is one for the 24 reluctor ring and one for the 58 reluctor ring? If anyone has some info on this, let me know.

(red 6010)

That red one is a 6012 box for 58X reluctor wheel motors (LS2+)

If you read the ad he is selling either box, so the picture doesn't really matter.

ok so msd's webite is wrong then???? because there red box is the 6010 and it is for a 24 reluctor wheel. your thinking of the red 6012 that is for the ls2/7 with a 58 reluctor wheel. i am not asking about that one. i am asking the difference between the black 6010 with 2 plugs and the red 6010 with one plug. and if you look at the ebay link i posted earlier the red box is not the 6012 like your claiming, it is the 6010 (i think), because it has only one plug not 2 like the 6012

6012 link

Not trying to be a smart a.. , but in your original post you have it backwards. Your links show the red 6010 with two plugs and the black 6010 with one. I think I would call MSD's tech line on this one, but the main thing is, the description on both states that they can be programmed. Just to add more confusion, I have a red 6010 on my engine with one serial plug, and it too can be programmed.

2nd plug on my RED 6010 box, yes it has two plugs is for 2 step and nitrous retard activation. All boxes are red now IIRC.

6010 for 24x
6012 for 58x

Are you looking to get an answer to your question or are you just trying to see how many people you can **** off?

I will tell you the second connector on the RED 6012 box on my car is a timing retard connector for running nitrous. I will also tell you MSD has a single instruction manual for the 6010 box. If you click on the link, go to the down load section and look at the instructions it has a step retard connector in the wiring diagram. So my guess is the color doesn't matter, both boxes have a timing retard regardless of color.

I think you are making way too much of the pictures. Maybe the second connector just doesn't show up. But now that you know what the second connector is for you should know if it matters to you or not.

It is just different pictures, there are not two different 6010 boxes. Just get a 6010 for 24x or 6012 for 58x and you will be fine. The pictures just aren't all of the exact item.

In defense of my eyes, I thought you were asking about the ports on the boxes themselves, for the hookup to the computer. The MSD link does in fact show a red box with a port on the end and one on the side. the summit link shows a black box with one port on the end. MY MISTAKE!! I want to thank you and *GMouldy* for pointing out my mistake. That's what makes it such a rewarding experience on this forum when you try to help someone.
