What is the best oil pan to get. i have looked all over an found alot but just dont know what one too get! i was thinkin bot going with the s&p ls1 oil pan that they hack on an re weld which one is like 260.oo with me giving them my oil pan. an there is one on ebay that is a all new oil pan that is from retoLs.com here is the link but it is 420.00 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWAX%3AIT
an i have asked someone who has got one an said that its not as low as it says but its a nice work of art.

Do you already have an ls1 oil pan? Why don't you just notch it? There was a sticky on this. It cost me about 50.00 to have it cut and rewelded. No problems for 2 years. Good luck

pan
I cut mine back to lip in floor of pan and removed about 1 1/2 inches up to flat from front to back. It fits great and did not have to move pick up and can use the baffel. it was 5.5 qts now its 5qts. motor is also further back but still 2 inches firewall clearance. I'll get pics. alt still clears frame and manifolds clear steering box, no a/c.

I also notched my oil pan in anticipation of the oil pan not clearing the steering or the member.
After placing my 98 LS1 in the engine bay, I realized that the oil pan never needed to be altered one bit. With the Hooker Motor Mount Adapters & the Energy Suspension mounts, the engine sits perfectly, and the Hooker longtubes sit just right too!
No cutting, No welding, and No spending!!!

Almost forgot...because the engine will sit slightly lower, the bottom screw of the alternator, plus two of the webbed fins on the bottom of the alternator will interfere with the k-member (just barely). I ground them just enough so that there is safe clearance between the member and the alternator.
In addition, there is not enough room for the plastic air vent behind the alternator. I trimmed it just enough to clear.
Here's one other issue...Where they exit the firewall, the Heater Tubes may not have enough clearance to clear the rear of the passenger head. A fellow LS1'er gave me this idea...He converted to a 67-69 Big-Block heater core & cover. The BB heater has tubes which exit from the fender side of the heater core cover. You can always retain your small block heater core and cover if you ever convert back!
