Advice please! 6.0 LS Swap in a 89 Mustang
Im looking for any advice on this swap to help ease it as much as possible. So if anyone has done this before your input would be greatly appreciated. Trying to keep it on a budget but it is what it is. Its going to be an N2O street car. What areas I'm looking for help in is what headers I could use or will I have to use custom or truck manifolds. What company is the best to use for the K-member and trans cross member to use? Or should I just use a motor plate. Thanks in advance, Marty

I don't have an 89 mustang, but for my 01, the AJE crossmember fits well. I went with the mustang headers(ebay $105) with the Ford flanges replaced with LS flanges. Made my own engine mounts. Quite a few guys in here running this set up. If you wanna pay premium prices, I hear the Kooks headers are nice pieces and supposedly the Dynatechs are working out their fitment issues.

Yea I was just on AJE's site and it looks like the way to go. I also read a little about the headers, Did you have problems with the fit or the steering shaft? What trans did you use? I have a 4L65E but have been told to get rid of it. Any thoughts? Im not gonna do much with the motor besides a cam swap and possibly nitrous. But for now I just wanna get the swap done! lol Thanks

I have about a 1/2" between the header and steering shaft joint, but I made my own motor mounts(and headers) so I could move it some. I'm running a 4l60e from a Camaro, fit is great! It lines up with the factory shift cable perfectly. The Chevy motor and trans fits better then the ford stuff it replaces! I'm leaving my 5.3 bone stock for right now, I just wanna drive this thing. Can't give you any advice on the 4l65e as Ii know nothing about them.
P.S. If you order the k member from Jegs you will save yourself some time as they usually have them in stock.

Thanks I was thinking I could use the 4.6 mounts on the LS block and modify them to work. But wasn't sure I figured I ask someone on here who may have done it. Thanks for the help.
