Default '04 GTO LS1 and T56 in a '66 A Body-Which Shifter?

I know the shifters are a bit different from the F Body T56 and the GTO T56. As far as location, is this an ideal tranny to use in a A Body? Anyone ever use a GTO T56 in a GM A Body? Thanks.

Default 1966 gto

I installed a 2006 GTO LS2 & T56 into my 1966 GTO, I did have to modify the transmission tunnel with a "T" cut but I left the stock shifter in its original place it seems to be about 4-6" further back than a similar "F" Body T56 transmission but after I put the seats in and sat in it and shifted through the gears it felt pretty much the same as when I had the 389 and Muncie 4 speed, I tried to load some pictures but it kept telling me they were too big, I have a few pics if you want pm me your email address and I can send them to you.

Did you ever find a shifter that will work with your setup? I'm installing a GTO T-56 into my 70 Chevelle, and my shifter was damaged, so I'm going to have to replace it anyway. The aftermarket GTO shifters are Stupid expensive, and I've noticed that the F-body shifters are quite a bit cheaper, and I'm wondering if I can use an F-body shifter in my GTO Trans?

Yep, you just have to get the correct ball cup for the f-body shifter. I can't remember where I got mine off hand, but it was ~$30.
