53 Dodge truck
Picked up a 53 dodge 1/2 ton truck today for $75. Been looking for a rat rod project and jumped on this when I saw how ugly it is. I have been looking on the internet for replacements parts, ie. window felt, weather stripping, I can't find anything. Plan is to go with an ls motor and auto trans. I was hoping to find a front clip kit or rolling tube frame but no luck. What are things I need to consider and look for when doing this truck? Mainly when it comes to the harness and power train.

Here is a place that might have some of the weather stripping, and you're right. It's an ugly truck.

There was also a place called "Plydo" as in Plymouth-Dodge. Since it's not a concours resto, try using felt and weatherstrip from a Chev or Ford from the same year. That stuff is easy to find and may be close in shape. The 2003 and newer Crown Vic has a bolt on crossmember/suspension assembly that is an easy upgrade for most older pickups. Love the LS motors but a late model hemi in an old Dodge would impress the crazy Mopar guys!

I've read of people using Dodge Dakota and S-10 frames under the older trucks

I like rat rods, if I was to ever do one it would be an old pickup.
