Default 71 Chevelle L76 TKO swap

I am getting parts collected for the L76 swap with his existing TKO.

Picked up a 100 mile L76 at the local yard.
6.0 with L92 heads complete with harnesses and front dress.

The DOD and VVT are going to be changed out.
Flow Tech Induction will be doing a 3 bolt cam for it.

Ordered a carb intake from aj usa
Yank is sending a ls2 timing chain
MSD 6012
edelbrock motor mounts
Picked up a L92 valley cover
Ls2 front cover
ls2 head gaskets
ls7 lifters
Comp trunion upgrade

I leaked the motor down and 1-2% on all cyl.

The oil pan looks like it should work. The sump from the center of the crank is 8" deap this is about what the motor that is in the car is so ground clearance should not be a issue.

Going to keep the stock clutch linkage and make a mount that bolts on for the z bar.

All the battery cables will be custom built.

Going to add a Spal fan set up with controler.

Will get some pics later tonight.

Look forward to seeing some pictures. How are you going about eliminating the DOD?

Well finally getting started.

We have about all the parts we need. Car is comming appart as I type. Engine is done and ready to go in for test fitting.

Complete edelbrock mounts and headers.

Had to pick up a milodon pan as the stock truck was going to hang way to low.

Dad wants AC so I am going to mod the stock comp and bracket to clear the motor mount. Vintage Air will provide cold air.

Picked up a Holley Street HP 750. Played with it on the dyno and on the 502 in the car last week. Very very nice carb for a 450 horse engine.

Afco radiator, Spal fan and controler

On to the pics

Looks good so far...keep us posted because I am about to do the same thing to my 1970 Chevelle but I am keeping the fuel injection. I am most curious about the fitment of the Edelbrock Swap Headers vs the Hooker.

These are great cars for a LSX swap. That is going to be a prize when it is done. Good luck with the swap.

Got the rad fitted today. Changed the pan to the new one.

Going to start cutting on the trans tunnel to raise the trans to get things lined up a little better.
I am not sure how much I am going to have to cut on the tunnel. Think I need to raise it 1" from where it is at now.

How are you planning on doing your tunnel. I cut mine completely out (floorboard was ****) some of the other chevelle guys have split the tunnel down the middle and added a strip in there.

Thanks

Having issues getting the AC to fit with the motor mounts.

I would really like to keep the stock ac bracket but it is not looking good. The back of the pump touches the hole the bolt needs to go thru.

The edelbrock mount keep the engine back so bellhousing dosn't move fwd but things just get really tight.

I had the same problem with the edelbrock mounts and the A/C compressor. I had to cut up my mounts and move the motor stands back. You will have to notch the crossmember a lot to keep the stock A/C placement. It all worked out in the end but a LOT of test fitting then grinding then more test fitting.

I went out to the shop last night. I am going to move the stands on the frame back 1" and redrill the 2 top holes for the edelbock adapters. This clears the compressor by 1". Not sure yet what I will have to do to the crossmember for clearance on the aft part of the bracket. It dosnt look like a huge amout of it will hit. Should know more tomorrow.

The AC clearance was no issue. The stock motor mount will not work a Energy suspension type mount is needed. Moved the mounts on the crossmember back 1" and moved the mounts on the edelbrock plates back 1" also.

The power steering was very very close to the bolt on the steering box so I swapped the bolt out for a button head allen. Clears Easy now

The pan is level with the crossmember. The headers hang just a touch lower. I am not really sure why they didn't get them closer to the floor it would have been easy.

With out cutting the tunnel out the trans to drivshaft angles are 4 degrees. I am not going to cut the tunnle out to go any further.

Got quite a bit done this week. Picked up the fittings for the power steering, motor mounts, second fan.

I ended up moving the engine back a little. With the energy susp mounts and the modified edelbrock addapters the AC fits with no mods to the crossmember.

The headers are very tight on the steering shaft and the pass side rail. on #8 tube.

I modified the driver header to clear the z bar. built a mount for the z bar stud. Mocked everything up and it all fits and looks like it will work great.

All this stuff is just mock up I am going to make a new mount next week when I pick up some material the alum is just to make sure things will fit.

I am going to redo the tube this is just odds and ends I had in the scrap bin. Had to make sure it was going to clear the rail before I invested any time. Why edelbrock didn't build the header like this to start with I am not sure

I'm putting together a 72 Olds 442. My big question is about the AC. I've heard the variable displacement compressors dont work well without the pressure switch. Did you add an f body pressure switch?
