Default LS1/4L80E/4x4 Swap Into 89 K5 Blazer

Ok... Here's my thoughts. I have a 1989 K5 Blazer with the 350 TBI, 700r4, and 4wd. I would like a little more power when it comes to towing and just plain performance. Going along with my thoughts that I'd like an LSx motor in anything that I can fit it, I want to do the swap into my truck (along with a few other projects I have in mind). I haven't seen this swap into a K5 and have been looking for parts to do it. So here are my thoughts. Bear with me....

LS1/LS2 Forged and Stroked
Cam/Heads
Backed by a stalled and built 4L80E
4wd functional (not sure which transfer case)
3.73 Gears in the front and rear diffs
Lifted 6" on 35" tires
and lastly for the cherry on top... Turbocharged

This truck will see towing duties sometimes whether it be a boat, or a car trailer to tow my SS. I'm wondering if anyone can offer help with any info on the swap such as mounts/crossmember a good turbo/cam/head setup.... anything that may help. Honestly not sure when I'll be able to start this swap because at the moment I'm working on opening my own shop/used car dealership. Thanks in advance for any info. Oh, and here's some pics of the Swap candidate.

Maybe put a 5.9 cummins from a mid 90s dodge so u can even change over the trans/transfer case and differentials. That's what I plan to do to my 94 blazer.

I've seen 5.3 Swaps into the 2wd trucks but no good write-ups. I know it's been done, but I haven't seen one with 4wd. Maybe after the summer I can get started, but we'll see how things go.

It's been done in K5's. In fact I have an L59 on the stand right now waiting to go in my 83 K5. There have been a couple of writeups on other sites. There's even some kits that allow A/C without cutting the frame.

Very interested in this topic as well. Petal, do you links for the write-ups? I have not found very much. I work in BG, BTW.

I have a 1972 GMC Jimmy 4X4 that I swapped a 2005 5.3/4L60 mated to my factory NP205 that sits in the stock location. I had to really add to the difficulty of the swap, I wanted a stock height 4X4. Moving the engine forward 2" to accomodate the longer 4L60 with the 6 bolt to 4 bolt adapter added to the clearance issues with the crossmember and front differential. I custom made my mounts/crossmember. After finally getting my last couple of bugs worked out it is a dream to drive. Quick, reliable, decent mileage.

A lifted 4X4 makes things easier.

I also believe (not sure) that an NP241 will bolt to a 4L60 and there are a couple of years with the correct drop and VSS needed for the LS PCM (but there are other VSS options). Search my name over at 1947-present Chevy GMC truck forum. I have quite a few threads and posts there.

Alien, does this also apply to the 73 to 87 trucks? I'm looking into doing my 89 K5, and it looks like the 4x4 trans/6.0 I have will bolt right on to the 241 with the correct adapder. Dakota even makes a VSS that retains the factory speedo so I don't have to rig something in the cluster.

My 89 is actually the only year of the 241 transfer case and the cable driven speedometer. I have an 03 4wd 4l60e that I'm planning on using. I'll probably have a new thread posted on it in 20 minutes or so...

Check out this site. There is a section on the site related to doing this type of swap. It's called The injection Section.
