LY6 with T56 in 2000 Trans Am?
Would it be possible to put an LY6 in a 2000 Trans Am with the stock T56 tranny? Will the VVT still work? Would I need to use the ECM from the LY6 or could the stock ECM be programmed to control it? Would all of the gauges still work? What all is involved in the swap? Thanks for the help.

yes you can install it. The stock ECM will not handle the VVT or the 58RW. You could use the OEM LY6 ECM with a swap harness.

By swap harness, do you mean the stock harness from the LY6 vehicle, or would I have to get a custom harness? Could the LY6 ECM be programmed to my VIN? This would be important for emissions test here. You don't think there would be any issues with my gauges working properly? Thanks for the help.

swap harness= either OEM harness or one such as one from www.speartech.com
john at Speartech can help you with a swap harness or modify the LY6 harness and answer your VIN question.

My brother did my swap harness - the LY6 is a great motor. The only problem with the Speartech harnesses is that they do nothing about wiring to your factory gauges (the hard part). I'm using a dakota digital box for my speedometer right now, but all of my other factory gauges work fine off of the factory ECU.
FWIW, the LY6 is *THE* motor to have... it even runs low compression so you can use 87 octane. I can't even imagine what this motor would be like procharged...
