Default 4.8L to 383 Build??

I believe the 4.8L and 5.3L blocks are the same...

Can an LS1 stroker kit (crank, rods, and pistons) be used to stroke these motors into a 383? A 4.8L would be a very cheap starting point if I got an old motor because this in a sense would be pretty much rebuilding it right?

Now that is a good question. But I have heard that you can bore the 4.8/5.3 blocks out to a 5.7. Now if that is true you should be able to stroke it to a 383.

I've heard that as well, but my thing is this... 4.8s aren't any cheaper than 5.3s, so unless one falls into your lap, why bother?

The 4.8 and 5.3 blocks are the same which is why the blocks are stamped with 4.8 and 5.3. Yes they can be bored to the ls1 specs and add a 4.00" crank and you'll have that 388 if im correct.

Its actually a 383. I will be working a a 396 (3.905x4.100) ls1 for my prerunner style pickup. Ive seen several done and they seem to show less bore distortion than the aluminum blocks.
