Default Trans and Harness Questions for LM7 s10

I recently picked up a LM7 out of a 99 silverado with about 80k on it. I am looking to put it into a 94 or 95 s10. I have been doing a lot of reading on this over the past few weeks, and still have a few questions.

-Would the 5 speed manual transmission from a silverado (2wd) be a good mate for this engine in this application?

-Is the 8.8 ford rear end the most cost efficient option?

-Should I obtain a silverado wiring harness and comp?

If anyone could point me to good build threads (I've already looked though quite a few)

I plan on buying the oil pan and headers from v8s10...And harness if necessary

at least get the pcm from the donor truck. You make a harness out of the original truck one or buy one thats scratch built. I have 2 of them now, it's not the most fun for sure. We're still running the stock rear with a posi unit and 4.10s installed. Current performance wiring builds harness' for your specific truck and engine to make it a plug and play affair but they run around $750.

The NV1500 isnt a super stout trans, but it's not a weakling like the old T5's. Dont abuse it and you should be fine, hard part is actually finding one

Cant go wrong with an 8.8

Build your own harness if you're on a budget, but a new one if you're not. Most any reputable company will provide a functioning harness

Nearly all build threads multiple pages long are great for info. Read over as many as you can find, even the ugly ones to pick up potential problem areas and issues you may run into

Thanks guys. The engine is out of a 99 silverado. What year pcms can I use. Were there any changes over the years? Is the nv1500 a direct bolt up to the engine? Any clutch recommendations? I'm really looking forward to getting started on this, I just need to find a truck now.

The NV1500 was used behind OEM 4.8/5.3's so nothing needs to change unless you're using an older version

Use the 99 PCM, or any with the same service number as what came on 99-02 Fbodys. you should already have the Red/Blue harness pinout, so thats the easiest

There is a 4l60e local to me from a 5cyl colorado. I can get it for a pretty good price. Would this be a good choice? (Not completely set on going auto yet, but this would be super convenient).

Hmmm, interesting. I'll have to read though your build thread when I'm not at work. As it sits right now, it's basically plug and play with my lm7 and a th400? Does it have a pcm? Street legal with title and everything?

You would need a computer but i could get you one with a stock tune with all the vats and crap taken out for about $100. and yea its plug and play, my listing here doesn't include the wiring harness or gauges in the price so we'd have to add some money to the price but it wont be horrible.

and Yes its street legal if you put some DOT tires on it, I have et drags and haven't gotten any tickets but technically they're not street legal. Title, lights, turn signals wired into stock column.
