Default x-body or first gen f-body with ls1 oil pan

I ran across a guy that had an lq4 in a 3rd gen nova that had an unmodifed f-body oil pan. He said he had to use the right steering components, but did not have time to ask for more detail. He was still running the draglink steering, so this looks real interesting to me.

Has anyone done this, and if so, what was needed to make it work?

Default 3rd gen nova

I thought that the 3rd gen nova went to rack & pinion. Odd, I am going to look at steering components on a parts seller websie to see if they are different than a first gen camaro/ firebird. If I see anything I will report back. LOL

jman the 3rd gen '68-'74 Novas have the same steering linkage as the 1st gen '67-'69 camaro and firebirds. They were not rack & pinion from the factory.

billsnogo - Different length idler and pitman arms were available for manual vs. power steering and that may be what this person was talking about. Also there were different length outter arms. See this page, both near the top and further down where they talk about the outters

So far, everything has worked great! Have over 1000 miles looged on it already.

Yes! That is the info I need Nice to see you on here. I ordered an f-body oil pan, and if it works out I still need to buy the pickup tube, dipstick and dipstick tube, then the retro pan will be for sale.

Now we play the waiting game...........I am tired of the waiting game, let's play hungry, hungry hippos
