Its a gas to drive, I'll say that. It will put about 4-5 lengths on a stock ls1 car to about 120.

I've been wayyy busy working on the farm here this month, but in a couple weeks, I'll be putting the other engine in (AFR headed 11.4:1 346) from my camaro in it..... THEN we'll see how fast it is hahahaha

Thanks guys!

Well I finally was able to steal away from the harvest field to work on my car... it rained! (first time since april - pretty big deal if you farm)

So this is what I started working on:

CFJ Stub axles and companion flanges, M2 Z31 Axles, 84 Z31 Turbo diff and axles.

Size: 133.4 KB

I got everything disassembled - pretty quick job thanks to the tutorials on here

Then i popped the cover off the diff to check things out and add some clutches. .. But its not a clutch style diff. I'm confused. .. more on that later.

That's similar to an Auburn type posi, IIRC. It's gear driven, so no additive needed.

I'm sorry but you're way off base. This is an open diff. Basically i got ripped off by the salvage yard that was supposed to sent me a 300zx turbo diff, and gave me an open R200 instead. kinda pissed about that.

So now I'll be doing the rest of the conversion and hunting for another Z31T diff..... those bastards.

I saw that and thought to myself "I might be missing something but that looks like the carrier gear I just took out for my swap." I'm putting a VLSD from a short nose R200 out of a NA 300zx.

How much did those "Bastard's" get you for ? R200 LSD's are kinda hard to find and expensive(not all the time).

Bummer. But 87 was the first year they started putting LSD's in the turbo cars so an 84 should have been an open diff. $150 isn't a bad price for a unit in good shape so while you didn't get what you wanted you didn't get a bad deal.

There are a couple of places that sell LSD's new. It is a simple matter to bolt in a new center section. Used LSD's are probably worn out and will need a rebuild. Plus some of them are less strong than others, you need to find one with 4 spider gears. By the time you pay the premium for a used LSD and get it rebuilt you will probably be better off just getting a new one.

I got a Nismo unit with a group buy for only $550. I think cusco sells one for closer to $800. Someone else makes one, can't remember the company.

Yeah $150 for a open R200 is normal price, an lsd r200(87-89 z31 turbo) goes for $800+ used !

OBX sells a LSD too but I hear some not so good thing about them.

Shoot, I just looked up the cusco stuff. $1400. I swear they were 8 bills just a couple of years ago. The Nismo stuff is NLA. The factory got hit by and earthquake a couple of months after I ordered mine. The Hybridz group buy was one of the last big production runs.

Hell you could "redneck it" and weld the spiders on the open diff until you find what you need. Does any one offer just the posi-carrier?

LOL thats what it is now, and its terrible to drive. Traction is good, but other than that..... no fun.

I just found out today that 87+ was clsd.... shoulda done more homework i guess.

Going to be looking around at junk yards today, hopefully find one.

And i understand that they'll need rebuilt, thats why i already have the clutches to do so!

Thanks for the input guys. Oh, and if you know anyone who needs an open 3.54 R200, I know a guy

Have you ever used car-part.com? Its a website that the junkyards use to list their inventory. Try it and see what turns up. You can filter it to your zip or whatever. Once a search is found you can further filter it by distance and price.

How much power can those hold ? I hear a lot of mixed reviews on those.

im not sure exactly-- its pretty basic and puts load on the spider gears- easy to put in yourself..

welded is definitely NO fun in the rain..

i have one in my 240 with the 5.0.. works well when i used to do burnouts it left 2 tire marks-- im sure it can be overpowered but it seems to do the job most of the time-- if i was road racing on the track i would get the quaiffe.

the next option up is a quaiffe but 10 years ago that was $800 not sure what it is now.
