Default 2002 S10 2.2 to 5.3L efi or carb

looking to put a bone stock 5.3 gen III in a 2002 S10 with a 2.2 and 4l60e. this will by my daily driver. i'm trying to decide wether to buy the ignition box and carb setup or go efi. i heard you can use the stock fuel system for the efi. i'm trying to keep costs down to as cheap as possible.

i have a retrofitted carbed LS in another vehicle, but if i go carbed here, will i need another fuel pressure regulator to step the stock fuel system down to the required psi? and what will i do about the operation of the transmission?

if i go efi, i could grab an ls2 intake, but will the throttle body and cables all clear the truck accessories? what is involved with the computer aspect, do i just buy a computer from a donor, hook it up and that's it? if so, what computer should i get?

any tips are apprerciated.

will truck accessories and truck exhaust manifolds fit the s10 with no issues?

what about the fan situation? what clutch fan will fit if any?

will the standard truck oil pan fit with no noptching? if not, will that lh8 "muscle car" oil pan fit?

Glad you chose to keep the efi. I was going to go nuts. LOL. It's on eof those things people have always done. Taking a good running efi vehicle and poping on a carb believeing it will be cheaper. In the long run, it will not be.

You can use the ecm and harness from a doner car. And if the motor you are using has the matching ecm and harness, all the while better. But you will have to do some wiring to make it work with the trucks factory harness. It's not fun. I just went with an aftermarket harness for my 98' s10 LS-1 / T-56 build. (not yet built/finished) It will be a plug and play thing. The harness was taylored to what I was going to runand where everything will be located. O(long tubes, corvette accessories, 5 wire MAF with IAT breakout, a/c, ecm in the s truck location on the coolant bottle.

Good luck. Alot of work, but it will be a great runner once done.

the carburetor setup was cheaper and better for my chevelle. for this vehicle and it's individual purposes, it will not be.

can i use a stock clutch fan, or will it not fit?

i'm trying to keep everything the same as a truck to minimalize complications. this is not about performance, it is about efficiency. i'd like to be able to get 25+ mpg, haul engines and light stuff, and tow the chevelle in a pinch.

I'd recommend upgraded brakes also.

EFI for sure. Ease of tuning and drivability.

I live in NE PA so the summers are not very hot. I picked up a 4.3L rad and a couple cheap electric fans.

What are you guys talking about "ease of tuning" with efi. Since when is it easier to tune an efi motor than a carb? What you mean is $700 software plus the learning curve.

for me, carburetors are WAY easier to tune. they are just as dumb as you are.

the question is no longer efi or carb, it is going to be efi. directions to the cheapest fan that fits and works seamlessly with the wiring harness would be great.

my chevelle is a carbureted l92 with a taurus fan. i'm not trying to duplicate that. this vehicle serves a much different purpose.
