Hey docked , glad to see the jeep is up and running well for you , wanted you to know again I appreciate you offer for help on my project when I was starting out , turned out to be a vats issue , runns like a scaled dog now , anyway I had a question about your traction bar , where did you get it and how does it not bind seeing you have leaf springs ?

Yes, Leaf Springs in the rear.

My traction bar came from M.O.R.E.

Hopefully you upgraded your axle. Traction and the Dana 30 axle won't mix well.

AJ,

Since Novak did the harness you might want to ask them. Otherwise, I'll need to know which ECM/PCM you have. There should be a sticker on it with the Hardware and Service Numbers. PM me the service number and I can tell you which pins and wires you need to tap into for 5V and Low Ref.

Thanks Ken! I'm out of town for work at the moment. When I get home I'll get you the info. I did talk to Novak about it any they suggested leaving the jeep ECM in just for that. I would rather not do that, just more unneeded clutter under the hood.

Great build! Makes me want to get another Jeep and attempt this!
Getting 8 MPG with my last lifted one left a hole in my pocket at the pumps!
LS motor should get much better mileage not to mention performance than a 4.0!
Heck I'm tempted to put a LS engine in my 08 F-150! Gotta be better than the 11-12 mpg I get now!

I've never checked the mileage. I just enjoy it. However, I can't imagine that it's all that great considering it's shaped like a brick with additional stuff like a winch and four big tires to get in the way of clean aerodynamics.

From Jeepin1995 on Jeepforum.com here's how to make the hybrid case:

chevy front case half
chevy 4-lo planetaries (they have the correct splines for the chevy trans and have 6 sun gears, not 3 like the jeep case therefore they are stronger)
chevy chain and sprockets (on the main shaft and also the front output shaft) the chevy chain is wider/stronger

jeep rear case half
jeep mainshaft(so i can keep my jeep SYE)
jeep SYE, jeep speedo gear/setup

This hopefully allows me to retain the stock speedometer since the stock sender will still be in place.
can you help me find the Jeepin1995 post on the hybird t~case, I've searched the forum and look at all his posts but didnt see anything. ive got a line on a 1988 s-10 np231c tcase for $30 bucks if it will work and save me $500 i will buy it.
thanks for the help. I dont have the SYE so could i just use the whole t case with the chevy slip yoke.

Not sure about forum rules on links to other forums so I sent you a link to the actual page via PM.

The T-case is a late 80's to mid 90's NP231C. If it has that tag on it you should be safe.

The only issue you may run into is the factory adapter between the t-case and trans. At one point I think chevy changed from 5 bolts to 6 bolts at the rear of the 4l60e trans case.

Default stock speedo

How did you handle the VSS for the stock speedometer? I am finishing up this same swap pretty much, 95 YJ, 5.3, 700r4, hybrid 231.

Sorry for the slow response. Just saw this post.

My transfer case is 1/2 Chevy (front) and 1/2 Jeep (rear) so my stock speedo runs off of the stock Jeep Vss on the rear output shaft of the T-case just like it did from the factory.

Default wiring VSS

I did the same thing with the 231. But since I eliminated the stock ECU/harness I am not sure how to wire the VSS to the speedometer. I used your write up extensively with my swap.

Take a look back at post #177.

I put up the VSS schematic and described what I did in that post.

Hi Docked,
What was the verdict on your tach. did you have to use a pull up or did the PCM run it ok? I'm in the middle of my swap now so I'm feeling you pain. 4.0 to 5.3. I haven't seen much information for my configuration. I'm the first year for EFI and the last for the VDO gauge package.
Thx.

Do you have the VDO or Chrysler gauges?
