68 camaro with ls2... what coil springs should i buy?
I have a 68 camaro with an ls2.... Im pulling the big block out and putting the ls2 in.. which will leave my camaro sitting very high in the front... what lowering springs should i buy? i want it to sit reasonable low to the ground.. I know small block springs still wouldnt cut it, considering the all aluminum ls2 is considerably lighter than a small block.. let me know thanks

When I 1st put my chevelle together. I used Hotchkis 1 1/2" springs and B-Body spindles. which should have been like around 3" lowere for a SBC.. once it was togehter.. it sat about stock height.. I cut it 1/2 coil to bring it down to where I wanted it.. That 80 to 100+ lbs really makes a different..
so, you might end up with a combination of springs and spindles to get the height you need. but I am sure the f-Body guys will ping in with a number of parts that they use...

I think I have the Moog stock replacement springs for a small block. I'm pretty sure I cut one full coil out. I have an iron block 6.0 and its pretty much stock height. All the other suspension parts are stock.

I bought the Hotchkiss lowering springs all around, and I'm not sure that that's what I needed. With new tires that equal the height of the orig tires, the car sits higher than before.
As with Tom's cars @ Speed Inc, I might go back to the stock springs in front (which I kept), and have them cut. The ride of the Hotchkiss is said to be 'firm, but not harsh", which really means...FIRM!
The orig mono-leafs made the tire fit perfect, only bec they were so worn that they were inverted. Their replacements are Hotchkiss 3-leaf lowering which are quite a bit higher and need adjusting as well.

FYI my DSE springs sat at about the same level as my stockers front and back. I have DSE's 3 inch drop leafs. When we did my buddies first gen he wanted to save some money. He figured since my DSE springs sat at the same level as the originals he would just order some new stock replacement springs. His car ended up looking like a 4X4. The stock 40 year old springs settle big time. I'm just saying don't compare your old springs to new modern lowering springs.

My car is probably lower than most. My DSE springs probably would have been fine if I didn't cut them. To be honest I probably didn't wait long enough for the new springs to settle. If I had it to do over again I would have put more miles on the car before deciding to cut them.
I wouldn't think twice about buying the DSE springs again. They have great products with great customer service. I can say that out of all the aftermarket parts on my car their stuff fit the best without needing any additional tweaking to make work.

I'm using the QA1 coilovers with factory control arms. You can set the ride height any way you want it with these. Go with the lighter spring rating (300 or 350lbs) and you will be cranking them up versus down.
Here's a good link which heightllights the installation process.

I think they were close to $500 when I purchased. Not the cheapest option, but I like the adjustability of both the ride height and shock compression rate. Plus they look kinda cool and I suppose there is a reason why most of the aftermarket sub-frames have gone to coilovers? Here is is link for a current ebay listing although I imagine you might find a better deal from Summit and other mega peformance retailers.
