LS1 with Muncie M20 in Chevelle??
Anyone done it? I'd like to use my Muncie M20 trans to keep the 4-spd and my buckets and console. Where do I get a bellhousing and will it work?? I'm old school chevy and dont know if I can even do this setup yet. Have a rolled 02 Camaro 35th SS and am putting this engine in my 72 Chevelle.

here's the deal......if someone wants to get the bellhousing and all parts to make the LS1 with a Muncie TOTALLY work on my 70 Chevelle SS work, this includes ALL parts, they can have the 6spd. Let the offers begin....

muncie behind an LSX
Why dont you use the bell and all of the linkage you already have on the Chevelle then just buy a flywheel for an LSX or use the flywheel from the Camaro now you dont have to buy any thing.

OPGI, Year One, ebay, etc sell pedal/linkage kits specifically for chevelle $300.
A BBC 621 168 tooth bell housing will bolt up. If you get one from keisler, it will even have the extra LS bolt hole $180.
Get an adjustable fork pivot stud (Mr Gasket) $13.
Sach 1050 flywheel, just remove the 2 dowels $60.
ARP flywheel/crank bolts for an 02 camaro/Ls1 $25
Pressure plate/10 spline 11"disk kit Sachs K555203 $120
Pressure plate Bolts M10 x 1.5 x 25 $10
LS7 Pilot bearing 12557583 $15
I'll let you know later which throwout bearing give the best geometry.
You still might need a clutch fork/boot, misc parts for a big block chevelle.
You can probably order everything new online for about $800.
Now where's my T56?

well, I decided to put this engine in an original 70 SS, and put my original #'s matching motor in storage. I'm going with the Muncie so I dont have to cut the car up. Keeping it original by saving the body and original motor is my only option for value.

Agreed. The only reason I'm putting the Muncie in my 72 442 is I already have it. And with a 2.73 rear gear on the car I'm limited to a Richmond 6 speed with around a 0.8 OD if I dont want to swap out the diff.
If it doesnt work out, I can always look for a T10 with a 3.42 1st gear or a Richmond 5 speed (3.27 1st, 1:1 5th).
BTW, why is it no one has made a splined clustershaft for the muncie so that you could choose the gears you want and even put a OD in place of 3rd gear?

Post 9 of my build thread. New 3 3/8" gauges fit perfectly in place of the old ones.

The speedo is a non issue. I converted a mechanical tach to electric on my 68 corvette. If yours is electric, just have the computer tach output set for 8 cylinder. The rest.... just use the original senders. I tapped my drivers side block plug (1/2" NPT) for the temp sender. Speedway motors makes an adapter for the mechanical oil pressure.
The only reason I swapped out the gauges on the 442 was that the tach was missing and some of the others not working. New aftermarket was cheaper than used originals.
