if the heads are off.. the 5.3 wil have dish pistons..and 4.8 will be flat top.. or take oil pan off and look at crank number.. part number.or measure stroke..

Newer 5.3's are flat tops, so the best method is to pull the casting number off the crank

Is there any difference between the 4.8 and 5.3 flexplate?

I'm also curious if there is a difference between the 4.8 and LS2 flexplate and if I can swap the LS2 flexplate onto the 4.8? I want to hook up a 4.8 to my 4L65e trans and was hoping I could do it with parts I already have.

Thanks for any help.

Flex plates are pretty much the same unless its the extended/spaced crank.

Thanks for the help. Glancing at a few pictures it looks like I might need a spacer since I'm using the 4L65e and not the 4L80e.

Anyone any experience with this?

I would think the spacer is only needed if a trans from an older SBC style engine is used. IE, TH350/400/700R4 or older 4L60. If the trans you are using came from behind an LS or Vortec based motor, than a standard flexplate is all you should need.

Sounds good. Thanks for the help you all. I appreciate it. I'll figure it out later this week. I just wanted to make sure this would, for the most part, be a direct drop in.

I'll be using the LS2 computer but have HPTuners so shouldn't have an issue getting the motor to run smooth.
