Default For those that have the room...$120 Twin Turbo Headers!

As most of us know, rounding out the square ports on 5.0 Mustang headers works for the individuals that want a cheap, decent set of headers.

I've been toying with the idea of trying these:

for 79-93 5.0 Twin Turbo Mustang Headers which are $70 off egay and $50 for a set of SS laser cut LS flanges, again, off egay.

So, for $120 you can get a set of decent enough quality turbo headers with T3 flanges.

Here is what they look like: (ignore the messy shop )

Now as you will notice, they are not symmetrical but with a little heat on the flange, you can get it to line up.

It actually worked out quite well with the hardest part getting the right side to line up because the bend is so tight (#4 in the photo with the heat mark on the tube) that it is cut at an angle.

in the up and forward position, you will need to rotate the coil pack for #1 and #3 as the stock wires will rest against the header. You could try an aftermarket set of wires and use 90deg boots at these two coil packs.

In the down and rear position, you will need to get a stub plug for #5 as the plug contacts #7 primary.

The other two positions (up and rear or Down and forward) will work in much the same way but you need room where it counts for most of us...such as the firewall or accessories. All can be had with a little finagling.

Anyways, thought I'd share!

Cheers!

Edit:

Thought I should add that the inlet of the turbo (t3/t4 in the photos) is inline with the face of the accessories and that the flange on the headers is just below the coil packs.
I will have to add another photo showing the overall height.

Nice headers... What accessory drive are you going to run with those? Also can you post the ebay info where you bought the parts?

Thanks

I am running F-Body accessories with a home-made PS delete.

Just go to ebay motors and search for "turbo mustang headers" and "LS (or LS1) flanges" and it should bring them up.

Here are the links but they may not work in the future:

Headers: This place lists multiples all the time and eventually they have sets listing sub $70. I watched for a month before ninja bidding my set for $70.

12-17-2011 Updated links! (wow almost a year later!)

See post #19

I've almost got the one side worked over to make it look symmetrical. Looking back on it now, I should have waited until they are in the car before going to far but we shall see!

Another thing to mention is that there is tons of room in the lower and rear mount for full size starter and F-Body dipstick. So much infact that I would recommend rotating the headers towards the block before fully welding the flanges to the primaries. I have chosen to go with the MSD mini starter so I will have even more room to play with.

Yes! The plan is to put this in the FC but I'm not sure which one of the 4 positions will work best yet. They all have pros and cons either way you mount them!

I just finished tweaking the left side. Now they are both pointing forward. Looks a little better.

Here is a photo showing how far forward the are...

I've been asked about the low-rear mount so here it is! I can't mount the turbo's here because 1, the drivers side is too close to the block due to how I have them set up and 2, I was lazy!

There is plenty of room if you weld the flanges for this setup.

I can however, there isn't too much that the pic will show. I just cut the turbo flange welds on 3 sides, turned it and re-welded it so it was parallel to the head flanges.

Hahaha Yup!

Figured since it varies so much and it's a necessary evil with this stuff anyway. Sort of like death and taxes. You go on anyway knowing that is going to be there no matter what!
