Default 5.3 in 67 Chevelle - Have questions.

Hello:

Been lurking here for a while (great site BTW) and am trying to put together a 5.3 swap in my 67 Chevelle.

Plan on running a 95/96 Caprice tank with the stock pump.

Would like to run the stock harness if I could figure out how to wire it. (anyone have any links?)

Running a TH350 trans so I don't need the trans controlled.

Motor is a 99 or 00 - Do not have the computer, (what P/N am I looking for?) What do I need for that? Who re-flashes them to bypass all the BS?

Will the truck manifolds work by any chance? They look like they dump in a good spot, I don't have the car at home right now- Winter storage so I can not even look at it till spring. Just trying to gather parts right now.

Any and all input is greatly appreceiated. Really would like the wiring harness and computer info. I can figure out the mechanicals fairly easy.

Thank you.

You can get info here on rewiring the harness. Also a source for doing your ecu.

I think the 411 ecu was pretty standard for that year.
The LS1 intake will work. You can use the truck injectors if you remove the plastic tips. You'll need the truck or aftermarket rails with modified hold downs.

So the truck rails and injectors will work, Will the throttle body from the 5.3 work on the LS1 intake?

Thanks you

Yep, a direct bolt on.
A pic of my 05 5.3, truck TB and injectors, LS1 intake, aftermarket rails.

I was told that the 96 caprice pump only makes 42 psi and not the 58 needed for the ls1. I bought a walbro and replaced the pump. It was simple. I used the rubber flex tube that came with the pump, not the $10 extra flex one like in the OEM pump. I could not get it on the nipple. Good luck.

I am using the B-body tank also. Used the Racetronix pump/harness kit.. worked great. and yes, the stock B-Body pump will need to be replaced.

Running a TH350, unless your running a manual valve body, you will have to get the Kick Down cable connected to the Throttle Body, if your TB is DBW you got a problem. Will hae to switch to a Cable TB and fab up some linkage for the Kickdown Cable.

Much of the information your looking for is in the FAQ / Sticky at the top of this section.
There are many vendors that will reflash your PCM, Check the Vendor list... Speartec does a great job for both the stock harness and PCM.

Thank you for all the info so far. Garys68 - Would the stock truck rails woek with you setup or did you need to run the aftermarket rails?

Is that the truck acc drive on there? (LH side of engine) What PS pulley are you running? - Where did you get the AC mount?

Looks great. What oil pan are you running?

Do you know the Walbro P/N needed for the B body tank? Wouldn't the proper regulator bump up the pressure to the correct pressure? I thought some of the LT1 guys were bumping the pressure up that much with the stock pump.

LS1 rails wont reach the shorter truck injectors. The truck rails will work but are really tall.
I'm running the truck alt/PS bracket (idler boss cut off) with a Kwik AC bracket.
I swapped out the pulley for a Doorman 300-201. Info here.
https://ls1tech.com/forums/conversio...swap-pics.html
I've got a CTS-V oil pan on now. Engine is raised about 1/2" using chevelle 307 frame mounts and tall/narrow engine mounts. Test fit is this week.
Sorry cant help with the fuel pump.

If you look at my pic, you'll see there's no idler. The boss it bolts to is cut off too in order for the TB to clear.
The L92 water pump will clear a cable TB, but not most DBW TB. You can use an LS1 pump with spacers.
For you TH350, if you're running DBW you might consider the kickdown connected to the pedal instead of the TB.

I'm running a cable TB - I will probably just stick with the truck intake if I need to mess with the acc drive.

I tried the truck manifolds on my 67 , one side was good the other side hit , the same with f body manifolds , I got tired of buying sets of manifolds so I just bought a set of headers. There are are a lot of manifolds and I'm sure there is a set that will fit, I'm not sure which though. JOHN

I have a set of truck manifolds and also a set of trailBlazer SS manifolds - Maybe a combination of these, I'll see once I get it set in there in the spring. What side did the truck manifold work on?
