Default 2000 Mustang GT 5.3 Turbo

Ok before I even get in to this let me say something. This build was done to see how cheaply we could do the swap and still make decent power. 600whp is the goal. 90% of the parts are ebay ,or are gotten off ebay for cheap.

Now that I got that out of the way. The car was a perfectly running 2000 mustang gt.

Sold the 4.6, 4r70w amd moates tuner for 1800$. Garret Hybrid t4 turbo 250$ So I offset the price 2050$. Car already had a full tubular UPR front end with coilovers, so didnt have to spend any money on that or motor mounts.

2003 5.3L 114k 431$ This is after tear down, cleaning and paint. Sorry for the Ford blue. It goes with my cars color scheme.

Here is the 5.3 assembled and list of what we done inside the motor.

ARP pro series rod bolts
Complete LS1 gasket set
MLS headgaskets
Ebay regrind cam 236/242 580/590 @ 050 LSA 116
Lunati Dual Gold Valve Springs
Trick Flow 7.45 Pushrods
Ebay Headstuds
Melling HP oil pump
LS2 Timig chain
Moroso 7qt Oil pan
Ls1 intake (Temporary till I finish car then gonna buy eddelbrock setup)

Turbo system is all Ebay

Ebay GT45
Ebay 3" intercooler pipping
Ebay 50mm WG
Ebay 50mm BOV
Ebay intercooler 32x14x3
Home built log header
3.5" Mandrel bent exhaust from turbo to rearend
3.5" Dynomax Bullet

This is all the pictures I wanted to put up. Just a quick run through of what we been doing with the car and how. Lot of unlisted parts that ill compile a list of. But If anyone has a question or needs some info let me know. Ill get some in depth pictures of things when I get a chance. Lot of these pictures are out of date and just quick snaps. Car is lot farther along than I can show and should fire up and move under its own power end of next week if all goes as we plan.

Have you ever tried ebay turbos before? I heard nothing but bad things about them (shaft play, melting, leaking). I'm just saying, but If your looking for a cheap price for a turbo that is of decent quality try Master Power.

Btw looks like a fun build for sure. Good Luck.

Yeah the guys that are helping me build it have used a couple of the GT45 turbos. One of them is on a fox and is 3 years old that has been ran hard, not one problem. After 3 years the turbo has very little shaft play and 0 leaks. Makes good power and makes it pretty quick. Most of this you hear about the ebay stuff is hear say. This is prob the 4th or 5th ebay turbo I have seen in person and not one person has complained or had problems. Now dont get me wrong we have ran into some of the smaller ebay turbos that are complete junk but the GT45 turbos have been very good to us. But as i said before this build is being done to see how much we can make with the least money. a MP turbo wasnt in the anywhere near what we were looking to do. Basically this is a complete ebay turbo build just to see how reliable it can be on ebay stuff. Since no one has really tried a complete Ebay turbo build we decided to tackle it. This car should really show that ebay stuff isnt all that bad if someone is in the hunt for decent power and on a very limited budget. Or it could go the opposite way, but since we have already done a few complete ebay 6.0 builds. I have confidence a lot of guys might be surprised on what it is gonna do.

More power to ya man, I was just reflecting from what I have seen/heard. Pretty awsome Idea to show how fast you can make a car using parts that are priced cheap. When your done with the build you mind if you calculate the total amount invested.

Sure, I can tell you right now if you take the money I got off my ford stuff, I have a little under 3600$. That includes everything I have bought. If I was doing this on GM car say a f-body and had to buy a motor I would be in the ball park of 1000$ out of my pocket at this point. Im shooting to be out of pocket under or right at 5000$ -6000$ on a complete FI swap into a mustang. That includes full rear suspension (UCA's & LCA's, 70/30 shocks, Springs).

(Ebay inside) im one of the people slogt is talking about, I have ran the gt45 ebay turbo for over 4 years now no problems. The bigger ebay turbos like this one is the better ones, the little t70 off ebay are the problem givers, This car is in our shop slowgt helps out a lot on it. Should be driving next week.

There are multiple vendors that sell the same turbo. I usually type in GT45 Turbocharger and look for the ones that say huge v-band 1000hp+

If you dont count parts I have sold. I have 5713$ in parts. Gonna be looking at 1900$ in parts left roughly.. This includes new MT drag radials, front runners, 2-step, tune, sub-frames ,rear shocks and few other smaller things. This coming up week I am buying all the stuff I need to get it fired up. Fluids, belt, battery, tune, etc. and any other little things I need. Ill have a total on everything I spent end of next week. No real total budget, I could just keep going and going on parts right now. But im realistically looking at about 7500$ after I pay labor. All done with the pay of a delivery driver at Papa Johns in 1 year. Includes living on my own and paying bills. So this shows it can be done on a limited salary just takes a little longer

Nice build, Ive always wondered about the Ebay turbo's myself. Just kinda scary to build a nice motor to have to turbine wheel go through it all. How much boost are you planning on running?
