LM7 5.3 complete engine for $1000....good deal? I am looking at a 5.3 locally(50 miles away) that is throttle body to oil pan, wiring harness, ECU, all accessories, truck intake, 862 heads, 12567392 block. No transmission. It appears to be from a 2004 truck, we have confirmed it has dished pistons(i.e. 5.3). We do not know the mileage but it looks clean outside and in(head cover and oil). My guess is 70K-90K miles.
He is only asking $1000.
I know the 862's are not the best but I can swap on 243's later. I know I cannot get big cubes(probably 347ci is safe max for my needs).
Based on what I'm seen shopping around, this is a pretty good deal for everything.
This engine will be going in my 1968 Bel Air Wagon. Here are my ultimate goals.
The wagon is called Project M...Emmy for short. And yes, M as in roman numeral for 1000.
I will be building a twin turbo setup down the road(2 years or so). I will be targetting about 550whp at first until I forged the bottom end.
Ultimately, I will have 600whp for the normal tune, but 1000whp capability(dyno number, standing mile, etc).
I want to spend my money as wisely as possible.
I have the following basic options...
1) Buy the 5.3, forged the bottom end later for 327ci and add ported 243's.
Boost the hell out of it. Pros-cheap, Cons- Is 1000whp on 327ci feasible with good streetability? Should require a lot more boost to make my power goals.
2) Buy the 5.3, replace the longblock later with a forged 6.0 or bigger and L92 heads. Sell the 5.3 longblock for only a couple hundred bucks.
Pro-bigger cubes, L92 heads fit, less boost required
to make my goals.
Cons-wasting money starting with the 5.3?
3) Wait for the 6.0 setup to come along or piece it together.
Pro- bigger cubes, L92 heads fit, less boost required to make my goals. Cons - higher cost, car will be down longer, I might be waiting for sometime.
Your thoughts?

P.S. for now trans will probably be a 4L60E until I can afford a T56 that will handle the power later.

I got a high mileage (189k) L33 (5.3L,799 heads, and flatop pistons) w/ wiring harness (no ecu) for $650 shipped. 6 month warrenty, but i planned on new rings and bearings either way. got it of ebay.
Also picked up a 04 gto ecu for $60 from the same junk yard.

I just picked up an almost complete 2000 5.3 with transmission (2wd) with about 100k on it for $600. The wiring harness had been cut and didnt have the ecu or maf though. It looks like ill be able to pick up a harness, ecu and maf for about $100-$150. So $700-$750 for the complete takeout setup.
