Default Sensors on rear of lq4

This is an LQ4 from an 06 silverado.
There are three sensors here on the rear of the engine (intake manifold removed). There is the cam sensor, the knock sensor plug, but what is that round sensor?

It isn't needed for operation of the engine, right?

not needed. I use an alternate location for the Autometer gauge sender. It's tapped into the oil filter connector bridge.

Is the oil filter bridge located right at the oilfilter? From what I have learned I think you can just take it off and tap it and put the sensor there?

Yes correct... Its the little aluminum tree right by the oil filter. You can just take it off and finish drilling the hole all the way through and tap it. I just tap it for 1/8" pipe thread like my autometer gauges take for the sender. Its very easy to do.
