Default ..:: The Flying Mattress.1964 Caddy Coupe.TT-LSx Conversion ::..

Well my plan was to put a DuraMax into my 1964 Caddy, for the awesome TQ and MPG's that I could get out of it. However that plan has changed after a LS1 power train fell into my lap that I couldn't refuse. So goodbye Durmax, Hello to the wonderful world of Twins on a LSx.

Car: All original 1964 Caddy Coupe, my baby
Drive train: 98 LS1 (Rods and Pistons) backed by 4l60 (until 4l80 can be found)
Fuel System: Aeromotive goodies, possibly second tank in truck for E85. 80lb inj.
Induction: Twin Turbos in the 60mm range, custom by House of Boost
Tuning: Stock 99 PCM, EFIlive tune by myself

So to the best of my knowledge and many many many hours searching the internet, I don't think anyone has done this conversion yet. I am sure due to the completely odd ball frame and steering the Caddy has compared to other GM's of its time.

Now that the drive train is sitting in my garage, and the weather is starting to change. This weekend will mark the first time in this cars 47 years on this planet that the engine and trans will be removed from her frame rails. (kinda sad) The 429 was a hell of a motor, and allowed me to put 7,000 wonderfull miles of road trips on her last year. But this year, she has one goal............

Drag Week

The car last year, the last day before winter storage
- Kyle is an awesome photo guru

Bringing the 50k mile motor home, after coming out of a poor fated Firehawk
Finally put the DuraMax to some use in the month of Dec. other then playing in snow

Looks like their would be room right... lol.

New Cam, Valvesprings, LS2 heads, LS2 intake/rails/injectors

So thats it for now, hopefully this weekends weather lends itself to being able to start the tear down. I will update this thread as it goes.

Thanks for looking, if anyone knows anyone that has done this to either a 1963 or 1964 Caddy, please let me know...cause I am not gonna lie, I would love to see what they did with the steering gearbox.

Since its an Auto, I am not going for any crazy numbers. This car is an awesome cruiser for bar nights, and weekend trips, so I don't want to mess with that. So honestly, a true 550rwhp would be awesome for me.

If I get everything done before Drag Week, (and a 4L80) and get bored, I would love to put it on E85 and make more. But thats not really the point to the car.

Just to be a fun cruiser, that will have a little more "pep" to it.

1) If you find another 4l80, send me a PM.
2) I will have plenty of pics of my builds, so I hope some will help.

I was totally dead set on the diesel route, until I started to think about a few things. 1) Sound at idle, I love rolling this car stealth like...duramax would have still clattered a little much at idle. 2) The amount of fab work to move the turbo to clear the hood, and 3) The trans tunnel mods to clear the allison. It all could have been done, but honestly... the turbo LS1 will do just fine.

Now, I have to say that I didn't do anything to the Caddy this weekend, cause I bought this new toy to play with.....

I know, a Toyota in a Mustang... what was I thinking. It should make for a fun weekend toy on E85, while I work on the Caddy.
