Default Another A-body header thread

Here are some pics of my F-body headers on my Chevelle. My setup is lq4/t56 using old brp style plates (1" setback) and then moved the frame stands back til I have about 1/4" between the firewall and the map sensor on the intake. I also shimmed my frame stands with some 16ga sheet that gave me bout 3/16"-1/4" between the frame and oil pan. Here's the pic they have excellent ground clearance and clear the frame just fine. (the pass side was already smashed when I got them but there is room and i plan to fix it) The only thing i don't like is the driver side has kind of a weird kick out on the collector but that shouldn't be a problem for any exhaust shop. Any comments are appreciated. Thanks.

looks like your headers (and your oil pan) are a good 1" + below your engine crossmember.

Thumbs up

Thats good to hear because there is so much F body stuff being made. Which Pan are you using and could you have kept the engine more forward without the headers hitting the cross member on the front tubes ?

Here is a couple of pics of what I am now doing to my Cross member in hope of keeping my ( brand new to me Ls2 I just picked-up today) from being to cramped to the firewall.

I did the same notch in my frame crossmember, and I have the Hooker SC headers from the F-body and they fit like they were made for the chassis..

They're for sale, coincidentally...

Here's some more pics and if anyone would like some pics of a specific area I would be more than happy to take some. I am using the lh8 "muscle car swap" pan which would be better described as only slightly better than the truck pan. I plan on swapping to a F-body pan later but I already bought this one and it will work for awhile. Header to crossmember clearance is not really much of an issue I would say there is a good 2"+, the main reason I set the engine so far back is to clear the alt on the factory steering box, I am using the F-body acc. I think that since it is so far back I should be able to clear the F-body pan without cutting the frame. The current pan hangs bout 2" below the crossmember we'll what happens. I think the headers are a little higher than the pan. Also this is goin in a 71 Chevelle so I don't know how much of this will cross over to you pre-68 A-body guys.

And some pics of the smashed up passenger side, again I did not do this nor would I have needed to and I will be getting fixed before runnin the engine. But apparently these headers do not fit a G-body.

Why not switch to the CTS-V pan? Its the best one for the A-body swap.

I looked into one right after I order the lh8 but I had already paid for the lh8 and got it on a no return type deal. I plan on pulling body off and working the frame over in a year or so, so I will just be careful til then. I plan on using a F-body pan but might see how the mast pan "pans out" (oh man I'm cracking myself up).

I'm pretty sure the F-body pan goes too far forward (towards the crossmember) to use in the A-bodies. Most guys have to cut and reweld them to get them to work..

The F body fits fine in a lot of builds. It was never a problem in my build but does push the motor back against the firewall.

I just picked up a set of DNAmotoring SS F-body Headers for my 64 chevelle.....They didn't fit.....However by moving tubes 1 and 3 and clearancing the lower control arm mounting bracket....They fit.

Only cost $200 total for 1 3/4" Long Tubes with O2 bungs and 3" collectors....and that includes the extra tubing I bought to move the 2 needed tubes...

My engine is set very far back I have not measured the distance from the back of the engine to the crossmember but if it is possible to do it without cutting it would be with this setup. Anyway this is not an oil pan thread was simply giving reference to the header ground clearance.

The headers are pacesetter off-road.
