Mounts are the same, engines are the same overall dimensions. Accesories, and especially the oil pan, can be very different.

mounts on the motor are the same....
5.7L vs 6.2L....
more displacement= more power potential...

Provided you have a complete engine with intake, covers etc... the cam position sensor and knock sensors are in different locations on genIV stuff so if you have an LS1 harness you will need extensions which a lot of vendors here sell. You will also have to convert to a cable TB as the LS3/98 stuff is drive by wire....

Physically, externally, not much differnts, most accessors will bolt up. Internall, many updates for oiling and others items.

The Mounts and bell housing bolt patterns will be the SAME !.

Gen III vs Gen IV
Heads.. ports shape (different inakes)
24x vs 58x, different Crank sensor.
Knock sensor = Top vs side
Cam sensor = top/back vs front timing cover.

How much do you need to know..

Just use the pan, pickup and tray for what is recommened for your kit and you'll be ok. The GTO pan will be ok..
