Default Who all has A/C in their conversions

Who all has done A/C in thier 1st gen conversions. Ive been searching around, and Ive been maybe 1 or 2 people but there was no threads on thier process of doing it. Im interested on how difficult it was to retro fit A/C after thier swap is done. Appreciate it!

Depends on if you want to keep the factory A/C or go aftermarket. I've put Vintage Air on a couple, and it's not too difficult, and I've kept the factory A/C on a couple which I like better, but aftermarket is usually easier.

wouldn't even think about not putting a/c on. I run the vette serp system w/ v.a. brakcet and sanden compressor. works great and more importantly, you can't see it.

I was able to keep my OEM AC unit on my Chevelle with only switching the compressor for the LS1 compressor. While it may not be the greatest setup, it works and it does get the blowing air down into the high 40's...

The last major coversion setup I did in my shop we used the Vintage setup for the '69 with all electric servo motors .If you did your swap you can do the a/c setup !I would use the Vintage new controls & avoid any problems .If you have a good a/c line man you can bring the lines out behind the fender well & not even see the bulk head with just a short line up front to comp, ect.Be sure to place the unit in the middle under the dash & take your time.If you want I will pm you the link to the build pics so you can see the line layout ect.

Vintage Air in all 3 of my conversions and am happy with all 3.That being said, the new gen units with electric servos like I used in my Chevelle, are way better them my old cable operated units.

I'd love to see some custom hoses/routing in this thread and maybe even part numbers! I'm swapping into a Volvo and need the GM fittings for the LS1 compressor - going to leave the rest of my A/C system stock Volvo stuff. I figure a few hoses with the GM fittings on one end and my Volvo fittings on the other will do the trick without messing with anything else (obviously changing the connector for the A/C clutch, but otherwise...)

I've done the VA Gen IV setup on my 68 corvette swap. Works great, great people to deal with, swapped out the SBC parts for LS. Terrific customer support. Only downside is a couple hundred more than other kits and expensive shippping on small parts so order that stuff through a local distributor.
I used Classic Auto Air universal kit in my 72 Olds 442 LS swap since no one made a direct fit kit. Great product, price, customer service, they even have a half price deal on the Kwik bracket when you order the kit! I was able to use my 442 controls with slight mods. Only downside is it's not quite as hi tech as VA and doesnt separate the heater from the defrost vents.

ls1 compressor with the rest of the system thirdgen F-body works great. used a 90 grand am pressure sensor in place of the high side 3rd gen switch

Did you buy the setup for you 68 vette directly from VA? I am about to begin on a LS swap on my 73 Shark. I've decided to pull the factory A/C and replace with a VA setup too.

I bought through a local dealer since they had most of the stuff in stock. That way I could see if it would work on a custom install. Be sure to have them swap out the binary switch for a trinary to control an electric fan.
