Ls1 to ls6 or 454?
Is it possible to drop in a 454 in a 98 trans am? What all would be needed...ecm wiring harness etc. Also what about goin with a ls6 block? Heres one i found....have newer ls6 block 2001 to 2002 with 241 cast heads that had 56,000 miles on it when cam out of car.it was taken to baskos machine shop in gilbert for a spun bearing.I had block line bored, crank, turned 10 under and bought 10 under bearing and new cam bearings. What im selling is the alluminum block, complete 241 head, rods, pistons, all the bearinfs that are new,and a fresh crank for $1000

What 454 are you referring to, bbc, or 454LSx? Yes you can get the 454 bbc but why go thru all that work when you can build a LSx block up to the same 454ci's and drop it down in the LS1 cradle without any further hassle?

Good God...i just saw the same motor you posted a pic of...wow 10k. Is the other one really that hard to put in? What is entailed? Also what if i just went with a ls6 block and built that up or would it not be worth it and just build up the ls1

Goals would be a streetable beast basically. Not something insane though. Once i do the motor itll be driven maybe once a week just out for a cruise and something for car shows. Right now its a dd stock trans am other than corsa catback, suncoast ram air hood and that factory airbox delete thing to utilize the ram air. Bought the car this way and in about 5kmi the motor is either gonna get rebuilt or replaced. Budget...id say like 5k. Once i start its not like it has to be done in a week or whatever..it can wait a few months if it means spending a little more. This is my debate...either drop money on this or just drive it and rebuild motor and keep it stock as a dd and get a 03 z06 as my money pit.

well that ls6 you are were talking about is an ls1 really with the ls6 block (241= ls1 243=ls6) the block is not going to make more power. you have a 98 so you have a lot you might want to change out (computer included). with a 5k budget you are prolly going to want to stay stock cubed. Do you have an A4 or M6?

With a budget of 5k, you can rebuild your current shortblock, add a h/c combo, headers, ls6 intake, get 400+hp at the wheels, and you will be quite happy with the daily driver characteristics that the car will still be maintaining.

Ok...if you havent already noticed my join date and how many posts i have...im a newb. So...h/c??? And its an A4 unfortunately haha And i sure wouldnt mind hitting 450-500rwhp. Im not against supercharging it either...just no turbo stuff. Now with all this power it wont do me any good with a blown tranny or rear end so what are some things i should consider with that also?

All you need is a nice 3600 stall, some good heads and a cam with full bolt ons and you wont regret it. Theres plenty of speed shops that can set you up with a good packagae and a tune once its done. Why do you wanna rebuild the motor?
