Default Question about speedometer and cruise control

Do you have to have an electric speedo to utilize cruise control? I have a 63 Vette and want to run the stock cable driven speedo. I have a 7004r with a tailshaft that has cable driven and VSS fitments. I prefer not to modify the speedo if I ever decide to go back to stock. Can I wire in the VSS with the PCM for cruise functions?

I'm working on that right now with DBW 05 LM7. Others have done it with a mechanical speedo connected to a pass thru Dakota Digital VSS (BTW, my 68 vette is using a mechanical speedo/DD VSS too). Mine is working but I'm having surging problems with the TB.
I'll let you know if I get that glitch fixed.

You need an electric VSS somewhere in the car for most modern cruise units to operate

Pass through units like ^^ guy work fine. Since you have a 700R4, you can also use a 90-92 B4C VSS which has dual outputs. Electric to drive the old ECM/speedo/cruise, mechanical to the radar detector. Lots of info on the subject at jagsthatrun
