Exclamation 97 LSx swap

alright i know the first thing said will be CLICK THE SEARCH BUTTON...but im not findin what i need. ive been a member on here for years b/c of my 99 SS but recently left because of my stang and other adventures lol.

been thinkin bout sellin the stang till a buddy of mine said.. hey drop a LS1 in it.

well its on now..only problem is NC and its OBDII inspection on 96+ vehicles.

ive seen the swap done with autos on SN95s and T56s which look like a PITA.

so couple questions.

to get a T56 in could i swap a cobra bellhousing with a LS1 bellhousing or are they completely different? because a mustang is a mechanical clutch Vs hydraulic.

and wiring is my nightmare so will this pass the OBDII test(its strictly plug it up and runs parameters minus visual but theres ways around it) and i plan on tuning out the cats, A.I.R. pump etc..

and will i still need the pcm for the stang plugged up to run other features?..ive never swapped anything in these latemodel cars strictly carb'd cars here...

thanks yall.

dont beat me up to bad lol

Quicktime makes conversion bellhousings($$$$$) but the hydraulic clutch really isnt that much more work anyways.

Grab a standalone harness from speartech or PSI conversion and itll be very easy.

Ya it's about 4" forward..forgot about that..

Get the Mustang T56, switch out the Front Plate and Input Shaft for the LS1, aswell as the LS Bell Housing.

Thats what im saying, with a regular t56 its gonna end up putting the shifter by the ebrake handle. It pushed it 3-4 inches back from the stock location in my fox. I would assume its about the same for an SN95.

Regarding the Check Engine light. Our harness comes with a wire (as I am sure other harnesses do) to hook up to the mustang check engine light. Hook it up and it will function as it should.

As far as the dash is concerned, you could swap in a '95 dash. I'm in the process of doing just that for my '01.
