Default Has anyone done a Cobra kit car w/ a LS engine?

The wife and I were at a car show tonight with my boss and she started asking about the old Shelby Cobra's. I explained to her most of them are kit cars and can be built. Soon after that she had delusions of grandeur and wants a pink one. She likes pink.

I have read that the factory five kit cars are suppose to be pretty good and use a lot of Mustang parts. I haven't got far enough in the research to find out exactly HOW many parts.

So it occurs to me. "Cobra's use Mustang parts....a lot of people swap LS motors into Mustangs....and even throw on a turbo or two.......man that would be pretty sweet....I like cheese...."

Most of my thought process was once again disrupted by my ADD.

So you have this really light car. You could grab a 5.3 on the cheap(we have one in the wife's Avy and it motivates it pretty well, couldn't imagine in a 2500lb car)throw a single turbo on it, run 10-12lbs of boost safely and it would freakin haul the mail.

One thing it would have to have is a auto. I can't get her to drive a stick to save my life. With a turbo car it makes more sense anyway.

With the 5.3 even if I drop the compression some she could drive around, get decent mileage, no bucking/surging/wanting to die at a light and out most normal street cars.

Thanks for any input. I don't know if it hasn't been done but I don't see why it couldn't. If you can put a big block ford in one you sure as hell could put in a LS engine.

I would think a 4l60 would hold up fine with the car being under 2500lbs. My Turbo 5.3 did 548rwhp @9psi so I'm thinking that thing would be silly at 500+rwhp. Hope you're wife can drive...

It's been done but I'm a little surprised that FFR doesn't offer a mount kit option. For the old lady I think I would just keep it NA and just throw a little cam in it. I would also stick with an aluminum block and keep her super light.

I finished a Factory Five a couple years ago, and now working with an LS3 engine for another car. The LS will fit fine in the roadster, they provided a lot of room for components.

I could have sworn they offer a mount option for the ls engines. I missed their open house this weekend. Im about 40 min away. Wanted to work on my car more than see other peoples finished cars.

I would think as popular as the LS engines are these days, that FFP would offer an LS mount option. Bob

There are a few out there. Someone on this forum posted a video a few months back. I have a MK IV kit and an LSX 454 that I'm currently working on. Any LS engine would make a great FFR.

How do you like their kit? It seems pretty well thought on from looking at their website.

I think that FFR gives you a lot for your money. I believe that if you're planning to build a replica for performance the FFR is a good choice. People looking for "tab A goes into slot B" are sometimes frustrated but it you are prepared to tweak things a little bit you can end up with a great vehicle.

Be prepared to be treated like a stepchild if you build one with a Chevy engine. There will be guys driving kits with 302 Fords that have "427" valve covers telling what's wrong with your engine choice ( I'm planning to enjoy that part).

A completed FFR is often a good way to go. Some nice cars sell for under $25K. I would not build one hoping to make money on it. It's similar to most modified performance cars. If you find one built the way you want, you won't duplicate it cheaper than the price to buy somebody else's'.

Might wanna be careful on how much power you give to the wifey. This could happen.....only it was a real AC Cobrahttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZNLpZdDz-1k

I said a 5.3 turbo because it's light and I want to build a turbo build. More than that it would be really drivable. I have a small cam in my Firehawk and she doesn't really care for it.(No that's not code for something! LOL)

I am still having some tuning and transmission issues so I think that's some of it too.

In a 2500lb car anymore than 500rwhp would be overkill.

Even a H/C/I car would haul.

Thanks man that's awesome. I'm sure the thread will only make the wife want one more.

There looks to be a lot of room up front. I wonder if it's room that can actually be used.
