Hello,

I'm new to the LS world and trying to see if I have a compatible engine/transmission to put in my '55 Chevy.

The engine: 2008 5.3 with 20k miles. Extremely nice motor (it was in a show car, so is detailed nicely)

Trans: 4L60e (I believe its around a 2000 model, but not sure) Anybody tell me exactly what trans I have?

My question: Will these 2 work well together? Any issues?

Is the bellhousing completely round (360*)? If so, then it is the correct trans and will bolt directly to the 5.3.
I see it has the 6bolt tailhousing, so yes its the correct trans.

It is my understanding that you can identify the later model 4l60e's by the removable bellhousing.

Just judging from those pictures, it is my opinion that the transmission you have will work without issue.

Is there a bolt hole at the top of the bell housing? If so, it is a Gen III / IV transmission. If there isn't a bolt hole at the top the transmission was mated to a Gen I / II engine and will require a spacer between the end of the crank snout and the torque converter. I'm thinking you don't need the spacer by the input shaft but you need to know this.

Perfect! That is the bolt hole I was talking about. That would be a Gen III based transmission meaning no spacer needed.

Sweet another thread about this. I am doing the same thing. I know this transmission is correct. However I have a little highjack though. I am going to go with a trailblazer converter(higher stall) and was told I will need a spacer or different flexplate to make it mate to the 5.3? Anyone done this?

Definitely not a highjack... the guy I got it from recommended using a Trailblazer converter so I'd like to know the answer, too.

No you dont need a spacer to use the TBSS tc, it will bolt right up to any of the Gen3-4 engines and the later model 4L60e, 4L65e, 4L70e transmissions.
