L59 into International Scout II...
Good evening! I have a new project we are doing for a customer. It's a '77 IH Scout that we'll be fitting a 2006 L59 into. It's not totally uncharted territory, as my DD is a 1980 Scout (same thing as the '77) with a '97 LT1 in it. (As a side note, I also have a '97 Firehawk LT4 in the garage, too)
I'm sure I'll have a few questions along the way, and I look forward to learning from the more seasoned veterans out there.

Sweet!
I wouldn't say you beat me to it, though. I've been driving my LT1'd Scout for about 4 years.
I paid for the 19k mile L59 today for i the '77. They're pulling it next week and we can go pick it up. We're figuring on using the stock Torque Flight 727 and Dana 20 transfer case on this build, and he's got stock 28-ish inch tall tires and 3.07 rears. We're figuring about 20 MPG with this set-up.

Thanks! The pictures hide some stuff, but it is good enough for who it's for.
The engine bay picture is the night that I got it running around the parking lot at the shop...no grille, hood, lots of loose ends still, etc. I'm still working on it, but it's better than it was in that picture.

I just sold my 78 Traveller with an AFI TBI set up. I strongly considered letting it sit in the garage until I could get around to putting a 5.3 in it.
My diesel 80 got just over 20mpg in stock trim but it had almost no get up and go.
I owned 8 different IH vehicles before I turned 20 (up too 5 at one time) but the 78 was my last one left.
When I get time again I hope to buy one and put an LS swap in it so I will be watching this build.

My orange on in the pics was originally an SD33T diesel 4 speed truck. I have 2 others set up that way, and at the time they were also both on the road. I decided to swap the orange one to a 304/auto configuration, and ran it that way until the LT1 swap.
Here are the other two I have that are still oilburners:
And this one is my own current project, a '79 that will likely be getting a 5.3l as well.
Yeah...I'm addicted.

That is an awesome collection of scouts. Makes me want to go see what it would take to get my diesel on the road again.
Have to resist that urge though since I am starting medical school in a month and already have more of a project than I have time for in my 66 Chevelle LS swap that is in progress.

Thanks, guys!
I love my Scouts. A Scout has been my DD since '98, and I wouldn't have it any other way. My LT1'd Scout gets me about 17 MPG, and put down this:
Note the A/F mix line down at the bottom. There's some more work to do in tuning this thing, for sure. It's stock but for an LT4 Hot Cam. The torque convertor (700r4) was unlocked, too. I figure it has the potential to get around 265 at the wheels...with a 20% driveline loss that's 330 at the flywheel.
Those diesels were dogs. The one that I have pictured above with the big tires, my folks bought new. With just 3.73's, it would bark those 36's into second and third gear. I tweaked it a little bit...from 7psi of boost to 18psi, enough fuel to lay a big ol' cloud at low rpms, etc. It was good for what it was, but when you are starting at a stock baseline of 101hp at the flywheel (factory rating), anything is an improvement! That sucker got 16 MPG like it sits in the picture, though. The black one got 24.6 from here to Ohio and back at 75-85 MPH all the way. They were mileage gettin' things...just ball-less.
I really can't wait to get my hands on this 5.3 to get started.
