Sorry just reread your post and realized you swapped to the newer trans. I beleive you need to weld a plate to the crossmember to make it work. I'm still using the old style 4L60E on mine.

Newer as in LS1 98 & up style. He used a LT1 style 4L60E.

I'm looking at the demensions of the CTS-V oil pan and wondering if it will work instead of the LS1 F-body pan. It's listed as about 1 1/4" deeper @ 6 3/4" vs. 5.5" for the F-body pan, but the 5.5" shown on the F-body pan is at the rear instead of the front of the sump & drain plug area where it is slightly deeper. The sump is a little shorter (front-to-rear) on the CTS-V by an inch also. Capacity is 5.5 quarts for both.
It's a good bit cheaper. I think I'm going to get one and if it won't work for my LT1-->LSx swap, I'll just use it for my 61.

What do you guys think??

what is the dif between the 5.3 and the ls1 or lq4/9. If the price dif is only 400$ between a lq 9 and the 5.3 why dont people just go lq9?

5.3l, 5.7l aluminum, 6.0l Iron, LQ9 is higher compression.

Ironblocks you have to drill & tap for alternator bolt.

Pretty much what you feel like buying and feel like spending..that and what you can get ahold of.

dont the 5.3s makes less power? what is dif between lq4 and 9? basically all ls heads would fit on the 5.7, lq4 and 9 ? Are the ls7 lifters the best ones for LS engines as well? sorry I am trying to learn all of this info and figuring everything out. You seem to know all of this stuff

I have the LS7 Lifters in my 408, normal ones in the other. They are better for high RPM

5.3 can make as much power as the others, all how you build it.

LQ4 has dish Pistons, LQ9 are flat.

All heads are pretty much interchangeable, L92/LS3/L76 Heads will only go on 6.0l and up.

First off, great thread! I've really learned a lot! Now...

I'm looking at doing an mild LS conversion into my 97 Camaro convertible. Thing is, the car is a V6/auto (4L60e), not an LT1. I'm thinking LS/4L60e combo would be the easiest. Besides the usual "what do I need" question (as I've read this whole thread and have a pretty good idea what's needed), anyone know of any issues starting with a V6 car instead of a V8? I'm thinking I might need an LT1 trans crossmember, but maybe maybe I can use my stock V6 one, I don't know.

Secondly, I've found somone selling a K-member out of a 98 with all the suspension and brakes (which I like as I wanted to upgrade to LS brakes anyway). It's totally complete. Wants $300. Sound like an okay deal? I figured with the complete brake setup it might be worth it, no?

Thanks!!!

Not really "more" issues with the v6. Just pick up the crossmember for the LS 4l60e that you are getting. $300 seems a bit steep on the front suspension. I gave $175 for a low mile complete setup.

Just finished this CAI for my swap:
It is based on the fact that the be cool radiator leaves about an extra inch of clearance between the radiator top and the hood.
It does clear the stock hood:

Air filter and radiator top mount:

Card MAF and honeycomb integrated in duct:

Got the car to the point where I thought I could start it tonight... It'll turn over and build oil pressure just fine, but there is no spark and the injectors aren't sending any fuel in. I have fuel at the rails for sure. Pressure gauge shows 60 psi on the regulator after the rails. On the harness nothing was changed for injectors or the coils so I would like to rule modification out, but I'm not absolutely positive that I didn't miss something somehow because I know it is possible.

Grounds were all checked, fuses are good, and I'm not sure what else to check... Does anyone know if the body harness has to be modified to go from LT to LS? From the research I did I thought that could be left alone, but do I need to do something different to get power to the coils and injectors? I know my car doesn't have all of the fuses and relays that a stock LS car has. Is that part of the problem?

I thought maybe VATS had something to do with it, but the PCM shows it is disabled so I am pretty sure that is ruled out.

There are two circuits (three pink wires)that power the coils and injectors from connectors C100 and C101 at the wheelwell in your LS harness. Check them to makie sure you have power there:

The LT engine compartment harness does not have a C101 connector. You have to reposition the wires in your LS C101 connector to empty spaces in your C 100connector and feed them from there. Thats what I did.

Pos A in connector C100 feeds Injectors and coils - Bank 1

Pos A in connector C101 feeds Coils -Bank 2
Pos B in conector C101 feeds Injectors - Bank 2
