Default 5.3 T56 4th gen....whos got one?

Trying to find anyone with a 5.3 swapped into there 4th gen fbody. Pics and vids would be great.


Thinking about doing a true "budget build" this winter on a 5.3.

The only thing you would really have to do is drill & tap for the Alternator Bolt, everything else will be a direct fit & plug-in..depending on what 5.3l Engine it is..GEN III will go right in, just need to drill & tap still.

If you want to get technical you will have to change out the front Coil Springs for the LT1 spec ones if it's an Ironblock.

the merv hit this one on the head. Just drill / tap the alt bolt hole and viola!

was going to do it but found a 100K LS1 for 600, and it was old lady driven, very clean inside dealer maintained, may not be a good thing, or,

Yes, that is what the 5.3 would go in.


Trying to put together a sheet to figure out costs.

Really sucks that the LT1 T56 is different than the LS1 T56.

input shaft and one other part, can't remember what it is but easily changed over,

The bellhousing, front plate, and input shaft are different.

The Merv has a new sticky that would be alot of help to you I'm sure. LS engine into LT1 cars.

bumping this one back up.

Any 5.3 FAQ's or anything?

Trying to find out exactly what I am going to need for this.

If I cam this little motor do I have to put rockers, pushrods, etc? Or just a cam?

Just the cam. im putting one inot my 95 bird converted the lt1 m6 to an LS m6 Im swapping the LM7 with LS6 cam intake, Cam, and longtubes should be running in the next couple of weeks.

For the LT1 car you'll need things like a wire harness, coils, computer, K-member, that kind of stuff.

I've done the swap, but my car was orig. an LS so it was literally bolt on stuff aside from drilling and tapping a hole for the Alt. To swap it into an LT car you'd need a wiring harness, k member, new fuel lines or get alum rails and put inlet on one side and return on the other along with a new input shaft, slave and bell housing. I'm not sure if the Master Cylinder is the same as a LS car.

Super chevy did a build up on a 5.3 not long ago, its called Modern Mouse I believe. With just heads, cam and intake it put down some really good numbers IMO.

If your just doing a small cam then I'd just do rod bolts, valve springs and new pushrods, maybe new lifters and lifter trays while your in there just for the hell of it.

5.3's are the same as the LS1, the only thing like it was said above is that you'll have to drill and tap for the alternator bracket.

Here's a 5.3 I Installed in a customer's car although it was an LS1 car to begin with...

did you have to swap the balancer from the ls1 to the 5.3?

You have to use the LS1 accesories so you have to take the 5.3 off and put the LS1 on.
