Default LQ4 Horsepower Question!!

I have a 2002 LQ4 bone stock , with the right tune , cam , and headers what could this thing push for HP???

Due to the low, [9.4] c/r.. My guess would be +/- 350FW.
The intake, [assuming U R using the stocker], is going to have it's "tongue hangin out" after about 5500 rpm.

With bolt-ons, tuned, and cammed (with the 317s), 450-500 fwhp. That would be with an intake swap though.

bump the compression and with a good cam you can make 400+ at the wheels with a different intake and lt headers

Default Intake??

A guy I work with has a 99 camaro with a built 5.7, he said I could have the stock intake from it .. Is that worth using?? I wish I knew more about ls motors I only built and drag raced old school small blocks then I look at a built sheet and then the dyno run of an LQ9 and I was sold!!

No the Truck intake is Fine, its not worth the change to the LS1 intake, unless clearance is the issue.

93, there are some great books out there with tons of info. I was in the same boat as you, the LS engines were out of my comfort zone, but the more I read up on them, the easier they became. I would gladly take an LS over a Gen 1 SBC now, sooo much easier to modify. Below is a link to a book with some great general tear down and assembly.

I would have to say to all you guys with Gen III/IV Fears... There is nothing to be afraid of . .Get Over It! LOL..

These are just Engine with just newer update and design.. it’s not like its Rocket Science (at least not any more).

Like any other engine. There are just requirement to meet in order to swap one in. (Higher fuel requirement. better Electrical system to handle the load, etc).

If going EFI, Yes.. EFI is must more complex that a Carb, But how many of you guys really understand how a carb internal work (idle circuit, power valves, etc) other than replacing the Jet and turning the idle screw some...

EFI is not exclusive to the Gen III/IV engine. It like any other EFI system.. it just requires some different parts and some software to make them work.. nothing you can't at least get used to it, as most likely your daily drive has it....

If you can't fight them. You may as well join them !.. or at least use the newer engine and tech to your advantage !
