Default Road Race/AutoX LSx swap

In your opinion, what would be the best donor car for a naturally aspirated LS motor to build as a mostly road race and autocross car. Obviously, it would need to be under 3000lbs, RWD, and have IRS.

Mid engine 914 Porsche. I saw one at an autox event with a 350 and I thought to myself, that would be awesome with an LS1.

All said and done the car will weigh around 2000lbs...

I agree 100%.

C4 Vette with coilovers, Z06 brakes, and a modern LSX motor....badass. Lots of potential.

The 914 has 40+ year old suspension design that is quite dated by todays standards. The chassis is not rigid enough for V8 power and needs a full cage that's tied-in to the suspension points. You'll be hard pressed to get it down to anything approaching 2000lbs.

I'd opt of something a little more more modern like one of the BMW's that some have built.

WS.666, are you intending on building a track only car?

There was an LS Miata at the Holley LS Fest. That car looked to be an absolute blast!
Can't really beat getting the donor car for cheap, ridiculously low weight, and plenty of aftermarket suspension support...

I agree with bot of these.. The Miata swap is actually more expensive believe it or not.

Pontiac Solstice or Saturn Sky

FD is by far the best choice mentioned thus far.

The amount of aftermarket for that car makes it a very tough contender!

I'm a little biased but the e30 makes a good track/auto-x car.

Not really, I want something that I can take out on some curvy roads, then go to Summit Point in WV and have a blast there too.

I'm liking the C4 idea. The E36 3-Series BMWs don't look too shabby either.
