Default '88 Monte Carlo SS w/ LY6 6.0 swap

This is my '88 Monte Carlo SS I picked up in '99. This was my first car. Bought it bone-stock with the L69 305 H.O., then I traded-up to a 406 SBC w/ some Brodix heads, cam, Holley Stealth Ram fuel injection, stage 2 200R4 trans, etc. Never could get it running well and it sat on and off for years. This eventually led me to the current swap; Picked up an LY6 w/ 25k miles out of a 2007 Silverado HD.

Motor: 2007 LY6 w/ factory harness
Trans: 2008 6L90e
Oil pan: P/N: 19212593 – "muscle car conversion kit"
Mounts: Trans Dapt 4595, Moroso Solid Steel Motor Mounts 62630
Headers: Hooker Blackheart swap headers

1999 when I first bought it.

On it's way to a new storage spot where it will undergo transplant

Scored a low mileage LY6 from a salvage yard sourced by RetroLSX and had it shipped out. Ended up picking it up from a shipping depot on South Side Chicago. In hindsight I would have paid extra for delivery to my door. Anyway, I got it home I cleaned it up a bit...

What intake you going with?? The truck intake the LH8 oil pan dont work good together. That LH8 pan has a pretty deep sump, and hangs low. I went with a Moroso conversion pan. Id look at the new Holley or Mast pans. If they look like they arent going to work then look at the Canton pan as it allows a factory filter location still.

You will love your LSx. Keep us posted on how things go.

Already have the GMPP pan. Couldn't beat the price! The other ones did look good though.
Probably going w/ the L76 intake?

Thanks John! Your Monte has always been an inspiration. I am seriously considering the T56 swap. Do you have any good resources/links for whats involved and which parts to use... pedals, crossmember, etc?

I agree with John on the T-56... but I'm not an auto fan.

Nice lookin car..is that other one a Regal or a Cutlass?

I have a T56 in mine..kept the pedals in the car and added a Clutch Pedal from a 91 Camaro..it works nicely.

Got it shipped from RetroLSX (don't know if he's still around?) I'm pretty sure he was out of the South, Georgia if I'm not mistaken? Motor only had 25k on it when it was pulled. Wasn't hard cleaning it up

What headers do you plan to use with those motor mounts? I love the fact that you and lot other guys are gutting your nice looking old sbc for the lsx! I have the old rusty brown 305 sitting in mine and theres a reason for me to swap it in there lol.

I believe the Pacesetter F-body headers work without much hammering. Still looking into that though.

I have motor ADD. It's gone through many changes. Starting with an old rusty brown 305 ....

Poor thing didn't even get an actual engine stand

Then the 406 w/ Holley 750

On to 406 w/ Holley Stealth Ram EFI

Now to be LSX until the next best thing I suppose. In case you were wondering I never actually get to drive my car as it's always under the knife

The 305 that came out of mine went onto the floor of the shop in the corner and it's been there ever since collecting dust..

I pulled the 305 out of my el camino, tossed it in the corner for a couple years, then into a jetboat for a couple more till it got a lifter clack, now its back in the corner LOL.

You will love the LSx, its the best thing I did to my el camino. I`m currently swapping a 5.3l / 4l80e into my 85 monte SS, but this one is getting a turbo.

MMMMMmmmm Love me some snail. That's one of the reasons I went with LY6; b/c of the iron block. I'm sure I'll get the itch at some point and slap a big 'ol turbo on it.

Being that you are not running A/C or heat your car would be very easy to turbo. I tend to make frequent highway trips with my car and windows down at 70+ mph for 4 hours sucks so I wanted to keep the air. I spent a week trying to figure out how to mount the turbo and still have room for the A/C box, compressor, exhaust manifold and downpipe. In the end I am having to build my passenger side manifold, its a cross between a log manifold and a header. Since you don`t have to worry about the a/c box you could fit a set of truck, f-body, or LS3 exhaust manifolds flipped over.

All this turbo talk gets me back in the mood for one (after talking myself out of it several times)... as if I need an excuse to start another car project! Thanks G-Body!

I can only be a bad influence. Right now I have so many open projects I could work on them 40 hours a week for the next couple years and not be done, so I figured you need to catch up to me.
