Default rx7 vs 240sx ls1 swap

Okay guys so after owning a 240sx for a while I’ve decided to move onto bigger and better things. That means ls1 swap! Now I’ve read every build thread or anything I can find on 240sx ls1’s, I have learned overall the rx7 ls1 swap is more popular with much more help. I honestly would rather do the 240sx but with my budget it might be hard "6000" (for shell and everything) The rx7 is a more practical choice. With my research done if I find the ls1 and a t56 with everything there for 3000, run straight pipe, shop made drive shaft and homemade motor mounts, and tranny mounts this will still be possible for the 240sx. the rx7 will run cheaper but still up there. Any advice on other differences other than looks?

I stuck my ls1 in the 240 for under 6000, and that was using a swap kit from sikky, I have more in it now but I just wanted more power. The only thing I like about the rx7 is if its a FD it looks better, and I think Hinson makes or is making a bolt in ford 9" for it, but I don't see any price difference between the 2, only in that the 240 was easier to find than the rx7. There's isn't much difference in the 2, a friend of mine has a ls2 rx7 FD and it was just as easy to put the ls motor in his as it was in mine, both make you look ridiculous when you try to climb out the car, and both have useless rear seats.

If we are talking Rx7 FD then its all around better performance car than a 240. Suspension design and chassis rigidity being key points. If you are talking FC vs 240 then they are pretty equal. The 240 will be cheaper in long run due the much stronger rear end. 240 will stuff more tire than an FC as well. The FC will have have slightly better weight balance than the 240. I have owned an FD and 240.

Personally I find the 240sx more appealing. That’s just opinion though. Many people have told me this swap will take a lot more than 6k and until now I have only heard of someone doing it with 5k. I think that I thought the rx7 would be cheaper due to a lot more choices in parts and such. Any recommendations on the swap into a s13? I will be making a build thread but any good ones you read that I might have over looked Nissan LS240? Or good information you recommend?

I found my engine trans combo for 3000, bought the sikky swap kit for 1750, got the exhaust in for 500 dual with an x piupe, walbro pump, 600 for the headers, pepboys make your own intake, used tha same radiator with a inline bypass on the top hose, did my own wiring, Spent right at 6000, maybe more with all the heatshrink and terminals, o and a battery. Car ran perfect ran good, loved it but my stupid *** wanted more power, so know I have much more than 6k in it. I would defenitely look into a lsd as well, open diff with lots of horsepower is not very effective.

I agree with proffessor speed the rx7 fd is probably a better car from the start, but I put some frame connectors, b pillar and c pillar braces, welded some of my own bracing, welded some seams up, solid frame and diff bushings, and suspension was replaced with tubular pieces, been to the track goes straight no wheel hop,

oh bought the 240 shell for 300 with a straight body just a cracked front bumper, 300 for a rx7 fd shell might need more than that. I would have totally prefered an rx7 just don't see it being cheaper than a 240.

theres no way in hell you could do an fd with the shell needed for under 10k because those shells are so highly sought after. I agree that the 240sx could be done for around 6-8k range and is also what I keep seeing around different sites. for more info on the swaps and cost go to norotors.com and silviav8forums.com both have some very good info

Im currently considering both these swaps right now either s13 or rx7 fc. im not sure if it means anything for your goals but from what ive researched the (may not be Spot on) but it weighs 3300 with an LS in it compared to the s13 at 2800 so a good 500 lbs light. I've noticed an abundance of cheaper rx7s (i assume because they are a dying breed that no one wants to repair anymore).

My 2 cents but i feel the 240 has a stronger aftermarket support as far as options go. Im hoping for 500whp /500trq out of a car that weighs around 2700 pounds. that would be lovely compared to the tank of an rx7 or mkIII supra which is even more =|
