Quick Question for those who converted LT1 > LS1
Ok guys, im in the process of piecing things back together. Im using the LS1 rack with the LT1 steering column. Im trying to determine whether my problem is column related or rack related.
When im installing the steering linkage, it does not have enough travel in the column to fully seat on the rack. The steering column is installed correctly and is fully tightened against the firewall. Im thinking that the LS1 steering column might be a tad longer to compensate for the angle of the rack. If I install the LT1 rack, it looks like the linkage will fully seat.
Thanks all. Just trying to see if anyone else has experienced the same problem.

Hrm. I had no issues. Put the top on first and slid the bottom on then tightened it down. LS1 is skinnier and alows you to use LS1 LT's too. My swap was into my 96z FWIW.
Excuse my retard friend..lol!

Hmmm...after doing a bit of searching, it appears that I have one ls1 shaft and another that is identical but not an lt1 shaft. The car was originally a 3.4 v6. I wonder if they adapted the shaft from the v6 cars into the ls1's? Or maybe I have two ls1 shafts somehow?!?! Anyone have any more ideas?

Turns out I had two LS1 shafts. Im about a 1/4" short of fitting the knuckle onto the column. Im going to see if I can have somebody push on the steering wheel from inside while I tighten it down...hopefully this works.

You must have something on wrong. The lt1 shaft will fit the ls1 rack also but needs to be swapped because the rag joint gets in the way. I have done 2 of these swaps and used the lt1 column with ls1 rack and intermediat shaft.
