Default Do iron brocks brake at the mount?

I was looking for starter bolt size and ran across multiple threads where the block mounts break with the first design starter. My questions is, is this also true for iron blocks? I have a starter with the inboard "small" mounting tab. Do I need to get a better starter?

Correct. The dual long bolt starter is the Updated starter nose cone design.

There is a TSB regarding this.

I will search to see if I can find another bulletin that talks about replacing the crank position sensor for a potential backfire condition that breaks starter nose cones.

My question was.. does this also effect the iron blocks? I have a 5.3 iron block.

Yes, this affects iron blocks as well. The TSB is for Chevy Trucks.
