newschool72 build pics....DONE !
guys, its been 13 months , 1500+ hrs, and a bunch of $$$$$, but im finally done! i didn't take the time to take pics of every detail of the build, but did manage to get a few pics along the way. thought id post them up for yall to see. there is a you tube vid on the carbed lsx forum too if u care to see it.im going to throw in a pic of my arm after my home made steam vent splice blew about a foot from me. its running an LS3 crate motor with a compcam LSR269-13, a victor jr and fast EZ-efi, 1 7/8 long tubes. 2 1/2 in stainless PYPES exhaust w an x-pipe. the tranny is a 2004r w a 2200 lock-up converter. an 8.5 10 bolt w Eaton posi and 3.42 gears. hotchkis TVS suspension and 4 wheel disks ( 13" all around) makes it turn and stop. i built it myself in my 2 car garage . i even did my own excuse of a paint job. hope u enjoy it. give me some feedback. thanks
this is what i started with. a polished turd ! what i thought was a really solid car turned out to need alot of work. the tear down begins
i found alot of rust, so the patch panels begin. sorry my camera man( my 13 yr old son) kinda lost interest during this stage, so not alot of pics.
now comes alot of block sanding and body tweakin
pretty happy with the body now, so i start the teardown.
after alot of cleaning, wire brushing, and stripping , i painted the subframe, a-arms, rearend and 1000 other little bits in satin black 2 part epoxy. i cleaned and sanded the underside and smoothed the firewall. after a lot of discussion with my wife and kids, we decides on summits blue metallic paint. i painted the underside and firewall, and the reconstruction begins.
its millertime, uhhh, i mean budlite time . nothing like seeing all that LS power sittin between the framerails !
now for a little color !
next for a little stripe action !
now for the finished product. hope u like. thanks for looking.
oh, i almost forgot my battle wound. this is what can happen when 220 deg. water and steam hits your arm . i made my own steam bleed for my heads into the upper rad. hose. it blew when i reached in to blip the throttle. always flange the ends so the hose has something to hang on. hard lesson to learn!

It looks great! I especially like the coil covers. Are those the Holleys?
The light colored interior looks great too. Gives it a more modern look.

thanks for the help, guys. got it now. bandit, they are the holley covers. i painted them on the same scheme as the car and added some crossflag fender emblems from a 67 camaro. the seats are 95 z28 leather seats, front and back. i balked on the blue/ tan combo, but my wife said it would work. she was wwrrriiiightt. damn, thats hard to say ! LOL

thanks. i got a really good deal on the seats from another member. they are out of a 95 Z28, front and rear. took some fab work to get them in but it worked out great. the dash pad was trashed in the car, so i tore the pad off and fiberglassed the shell to give a more seamless look where it meet the upper cowl. i pick up some material at the fabric store to fab the upper door panels and built in the bowtie symbols with padding.

thanks. i burned my arm when the splice i fabbed for the steam bleed from the heads to the upper radiator hose came apart at 223 deg( according to the hand held tuner on the FAST EFI. i had wired the fans wrong, so when they didnt come on, i blipped the throttle by hand before i shut her down to fix the wiring and thats when it came apart. most painful thing ive ever been through. it showered my whole left side, but my arm was right next to it, so it got the brunt of the water and steam. felt like someone poured gas on me and struck a match

thanks guys. if i can run across a set of drag radials id really be interested to know what its capable of. on street tires its a joke. half throttle from a stop just goes up in smoke then second gear goes drifter stance. ive only got about 20 miles on the car as a whole and still have to seat the new brakes, break the rearend etc. etc.....so i havent nailed it and run through the gear YET, but digging into the throttle a little from a roll, she pulls really good.
