Whats up folks. Kinda new here from OKC. Got a project a I figured I'd start a build thread on. A little history on me, Im coming from a Scion tc that we (Abel Racing) put a custom turbo kit w/ e85 on stock motor and made 472 whp. Car was pretty quick but I hit a brick wall with FWD, weak trans and too much power. Here is piks as it sat last...




Decided to make the switch to RWD and picked up a 1991 300zx (n/a body) auto. Then got the idea to put a LQ9 (LS truck motor 6.0) coupled with a Precision 94mm turbo necked down to a 88mm and auto tranny. Then somehow convinced the good folks at Abel Racing (in Midwest City OK) that this was a good idea. Got started and pulled the motor and trans with the help of "efeezie". Well he did mostly all the work. lol. Car sat for a while so I could gather parts and get a good plan going.



Finally got started on some fab work the other day. Again, all work done by "efeezie". Got custom solid motor mounts and manifolds made. Fitted a 4L60E auto tranny. Custom hat for Edlebrock Victor Jr. Intake is almost finished. Here are some progress piks... Sorry for cell piks. Will take better piks further down the road.






Things to get worked on next are: Air-to-water setup, getting motor to running shape with vette accessories (planning on stroking to 6.7L later down the road). Get fuel system together. Custom drive shaft, and all the little things to get it running.
I have big plans for the car. I wont bother making an entire list of what I plan on doing, I'll just post as it comes together.

Another sees the light, no point in making power with FWD cars, lol, this will be an awesome build,

off subject, I need a rear sway bar for my LS1 240 (ran dual exhaust and I removed the factory one) if you don't mind could you measure how wide the rear sway bar is bolt hole to bolt hole, I keep asking different people if a 300zx sway bar would fit a 240 and our local junkyard wants way to much for a used one to test fit.

I've heard the J30 rear sway bar fits the S chassis. i dont think there's too much difference between the J and Z chassis. infact, the S, J, and Z chassis basically use the same rear subframe, IRS, etc so they "should" be interchangeable.

considering youre going boosted, is there any reason why youre going with the higher compression lq9 vs an lq4? i guess if youre stroking it maybe youre planning on getting new pistons, but that was my second though.

my first thought was, badass. cant wait for more progress.

btw i put a turbotoyota kit on a pals tc, made like 300/300; those are impressive numbers you put down

I used the LQ9 because the shop had one in the back. lol And yea, eventually I'll be building/stroking it. And thanks.

As for the tc, had a 60-1 and e85 the magic juice

I sometimes read the "Tuner" Mags as I love Japanese cars so the thought had occured to me to mate an LS engine with a Nissan 300ZX.

Yes, the J30 is a great recommendation! That's what I was going to say but you already did. However, the only thing the subframes have in common is they look pretty much the same, but are alllll different sizes. The arms on the other hand, most are interchangeable between some models.

I'm thinking about doing the same thing, how much cutting did you have to do because I have been told a lot by people and other people none at all

Thanks. I'll get piks of mounts and oil pan sometime tomorrow. The oil pan is the 7qt Moroso pan but we had to cut it up a bit to clear the steering rack.
zboy, wasnt much cutting really. You mean firewall/engine bay correct? We actually havent had to cut anything yet. We did some "conditioning" with a hammer though. lol

very cool man. Pretty close to what Im doing. My LS1/T56 in my 300zx is almost done. After we get it done and running smoothly, it goes back to the shop for a single T76

With mine, we didnt cut the firewall at all with my T56. Although we did have to cut the K-member and drop it an inch, that was easy. Check out my thread for pics and more info.

Bottom end needed a lil work so we sent it off to the machine shop. Thats whats kinda holding everything back right now, waiting for them to get finished. Once it comes back we'll start putting everything together full force!!!

Kudos for your bravery. That's not an easy model to fit an LS motor in. I have read more than one build thread where someone started one of those and gave up. Looks like you're not afraid to break out the sawsalls thought. Can't wait to see what it does when you are done.
