Smile Another 88 Fox coupe swap. RynnGT

I have been planning for awhile and today I bought the engine so lets get started......The car is a light grey coupe. Low 30,000 miles, perfect except the one fender has been painted and it is an auto. I am going to need help just so you know, not a mechanic, but I am going to pretend. I really hope this turns out and runs good. Suspension, brakes, engine ,tranny, and rear diff will have to be changed. I will try and update but this is not going to happen overnight.

Why change the rear diff? The 8.8 is more than capable of decent power levels. Eric L

Default rear diff

I have a take out 8.8 with 3.55's and cobra brakes from a 04 mach 1 but those housings are too wide. So I will tale the brakes off and get 5 lug axles. I have a 31 spline posi unit sitting here as well. Would like a 6 speed but will probably get a tko600.

Default Suspension

Here is the suspension unpacked. Max motorsport max grip box. HD torque arm, coilovers 425/300, hd bilstens, non offset a-arms. strut tower brace probably won't fit. Also the front 13" brakes off the mach1 and the diff that I need to take the brakes off of and put on the diff in the car.Planning on going with the 96-04 spindles because there are still attached to the brakes. I am going to start on the rear. I am waiting for the engine and tranny to be removed by Kurt. He traded me stock 5.0/Aod for cabinets in my front room.

Default K member

I have a standard 5.0 kmember and use the brp swap kit. It is intended for the stock kmember so it should work. I have had the suspension for a while and was going to put in 331/t56 but sold off the engine and tranny when I had two houses and big payments. I have had a ride in the maximum motorsports race car and it was really neat with the same equipment. It will be pretty stiff but I won't drive it everyday.

Wouldn't it have been better to buy the aje or team z k-member and mounts for around the same price as the BRP swap kit?

Stock engine is out with the stock AOD. Came out perfect due to the fact I didn't do it. I had to work and Kurt, who got the engine and tranny, took it out the bottom. Special thanks to Glen . Due to the lack of me telling them that all the stock suspension is going in the garbage the stock kmember was reinstalled. It would of be so much better if new stuff was put in . Oh well next weekend I finally can get dirty. Mystery motor has to be picked up in Edmonton and deciding on tranny. Tko 600 or t6060 or viper t56 from D&D. Thinking of ls9 or ls7 manifolds and 3" exhaust. Also trying to decide on power steering and wheel sizes. Checked out 03 cobra wheels last night. 8" front 9" out back. Pics to follow

Btw the 03-04 mach1 has a irs just like the cobra mustang used.If you pulled a 8.8 out of it it wasn't a real mach1 or someone swapped it over.

Default engine out and starting........

The engine and tranny are finally out the car is back at my house and I started the front suspension swap. I got a feeling that this is a lot of work. Kind of overwhelmed with the order i should do this. Still have to go to edmonton and pick up the mystery motor. Pics to follow.

Nice swap man, noticed a few things, though I would touch on. Your notch is simulular to mine, thought I could offer some advice.

You said that the 99-04 housing will be too wide. I have one in my car, and with the right offset wheels (it makes it VERY close to S197, 05-09 offset) it works perfect. Also using 99-04 spindles (i did) pushes the track out in the front, again, making the offset close to the rear. While I don't have cobra brakes (yet) I have the 01 GT stuff up front, with 86 SVO brakes (11.3" vented disc) in the rear, car stops NOW.

To help with wheel selection, try using 94-95 spindles in the front, moves the track in 8mm per side and allows a wider tire width. I have 245/45/17" on it now, and they hit the fender lip, a 235 does not, but I like the fat tire look (315's out back....). ALso the 13" brakes will bolt up just fine.

Good luck on your project!

Charlie
