Gen IV 5.3L questions
Yesterday I bought a Gen IV 5.3L and I don't wanna run the AFM/DOD and I have read you can even change the 58x and a 24x. Now I'm not sure I wanna do that but what all do I have to do to not run the AFM/DOD set up?? I wanna bore it to a 5.7L set with 243 heads, either a LS6 intake or a FAST one, an aftermarket cam. I plan on putting it in a 1993 Chevy S10. Any info would help!! Before anyone says it... yes i have been searching all day!!!
Thanks in advance.

If your going to have the crank out. Then you can run the 24x trigger. You have to swap to the Gen III PCM, knock sensors (mounted on side of block) and and LS2 1x front cam sensor setup. So its not to painful to do.
Then you would basically have a Gen III motor.
As far as the AFM stuff just swap to the LS2/3 valley cover and get a LS3 oil pump. Then run LS7 lifters. That will take care of the AFM.

Maybe I should have said it but it is an iron block. And I notice with the lifters and lifter keepers are designed differently then Gen III. Is that going to effect anything?? Sorry I dont have a pic yet but if I need to get one I will. The block itself has notches (If you wanna call them that) that you cant run the Gen III keepers. I bought a couple books that I'm reading up on. I know alittle bit about the LS series but learning more everyday I was Gen I fan since I could walk lol. stepping into the new age and very excited about this build but its gonna be a slow one, slow times at the work place but I'm sure everyone is feeling the same. :/

The only thing that kinda stinks is that a pretty much got a short block but only block, rods and crank, but I have a Gen III 4.8L that was a long block plus other parts I'm thinking a can sell the parts I don't need so I can buy the parts I need. So I need the front cover too. I have bought a couple books that I'm going to read to see what all its going to take. I'm looking at it like a hell of a learning experience.
Thanks again

Well I don't have a PCM yet, I'm doing my home work to see how I wanna build this. so far it seems like the easiest route would be to just convert to 24x trigger with 1x cam sensor and run Gen III set up and just buy a harness with extended knock and cam sensor pigtails.
