Default 1987 IROC Camaro (IROC-BOOST) Build 4.0 (((Slow Internet BEWARE)))

Well since I'm pretty sure alot of you guys dont make it over to the FI side of Tech that i'd post my build thread in here. This has been an ongoing almost 3+ year project. Its been running a few times and driven to a few local meets about a half a dozen times but for one reason or another got torn back down to fix/ Currect/ Or just make better stuff on the car. I'm pretty sure I'm about 2 months or less from the car being offically "Done". Well here is the important posts over the last couple years of my build.

***********This starts at around March/April 2010**********

I figured I wiould FINALLY post my Re-Build on LS1tech. First i want to say thank you to a good portion of the guys on the FI side of the house and the SEARCH function as it has helped a ton along the way. My car started as a LS1 swapped 87 IROC with a STS kit built by Bruce of Hawks thirdgen. I have owned the car since 2006 and have changed alot but got tired of blown off couplers, holes being rubbinin them, scraping ever were. So it was time for some thing new. So here is what i got so far followed by my build which started about 4 months ago.

LQ4 Block
JE Boost Pistons
Eagle H Beam Rods
LS6 Intake with ported TB ****RECENT CHANGE, NOW HIGH RISE****
Speed Inc fuel rails ****CHANGED****
T56 with PRO 5.0 shifter ****NOW 4L80E****
Currently single Walbro 255 ****NOW HAS DUALS****
60lb Injectors ****NOW 80lbs about to go to 120 or bigger****
243 heads with dual valve springs
Custom Turbo cam
CTSV R Lifters
LS2 Timing Chain
LS6 Oil Pump
76MM Master Power Turbo. ****NOW PT80****
Tubular Turbo headers
3.5" Downpipe ****GOING 4"****
Cutout Then Hooker Aero Chamber
Coilovers

I had just put on the car before I tore it apart: Tubular Adj Control arms, Spohn Sway Bars, Spohn wonder bar, Spohn Adj torqu arm, Driveshaft safety loop, KYB adj shock. Car has Eiback springs but will have Coil overs on it this week.

6.0 Block Before

After

Pistons/Rods

Heads with springs that are a PITA to install.

Pulling old modar out of the Mullet ride.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

-------------------------- 06-26-2010------------------------------------
And this is were I'm at today. Having to make a custom steering shaft and heater hose inlet for the water pump. Turbo cars are a PITA. Thanks for viewing.

-------------------------- 07-08-2010------------------------------------
This car i swear is going to kill me. LOL. Here some updated pics. Still have to figure this damn oil return bung thats in the middle of my K member. Got to finish my crossover pipe but that will come after I get this PS pulley off which is being a pain. Oh the joys of performance.

-------------------------- 08-04-2010------------------------------------
*SLAMMIN*

Installed the weight jacks/ coil overs.

-------------------------- 08-17-2010------------------------------------

-------------------------- 08-18-2010-----------------------------------
Car runs! I did a Jig when it started with no probs. Heres a short vid of it running. Thnaks to Matt (donkeypunch), my good bud Wop Josh, Ed Hutchings, Shawn Ramey, LS1tech, and of course my wife Nicole who has put up with this the last 8 months. Hope to have the car out this weekend.

Well I'm still finishing up some things but the car runs and drives (most of the time). Here are a few randoms of the car.

Suspension

Interior

Low...

--------------------- Late Oct2010 ---------------------------------
Ran into a few problems and was un-happy with alot of little things on the car so the motor and front suspension came out... Oh and then the tubular K-member ended up not fitting right... another

Car went on the dyno but I forgot to Gap the plugs so it never got spark past 3500rpm, oh well. then since i was there......

Been awhile since I updated this thread. Sh*t got serious with upgrades.
PT80 From a MP76
Tial 60mm Wastegate From Tial 38mm
Aluminum Radiator,
S60 with 3.54 from a 10bolt with 4.10

Only waiting on a few more parts...
Couple before and after... LOL

These wheels should be here in a couple of weeks in 18x9.5 and 18x11 needed some real wheels. 7 diffrent wheel types on this car later I finally get some dope ons, lol.

Also debating going from the C5 Z06 brakes to the C6 Z06 brakes for the WOW factor.

------------------------------------ 11-16-2011 ------------------------

Few more.

New wheels on left, old on right.

-------------------- FEB2012!!!!!--------------------------------------

Radiator, Check!

Bottom Rad and intercooler support finished up, looks real good.

MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM Intercooler flush mount now... FTW!

This.

Is finally in this.

A few changes coming to the motor setup soon. Debating on my 408 I have... Or maybe a 6 bolt per cylinder 4XX motor.... HHMMMMM

Because, RACECAR!

That Edelbrock intake looks killer on there. Do you know if there are any back-to-back dyno tests of that vs. stock or FAST LS intakes so I can see the torque curve differences?

From what i can see it performes better than a LS6 by 30+hp. I'm not sure about a Fast as I've always been a boosted car so I've never had a FAST.

The Edelbrock intake looks really good and sets the car apart, Now just got to shave the edlebrock on the top off and then figure out what i want to do looks wise, Eeither Gloss Block or Hydro Coat Carbon fiber just for ***** and Giggles.

And because RACECAR, is a joke. LOL

How tall is your cowl hood? any issues with this intake? I have a 1991 Z that looks a lot like this actually that I will be building a turbo setup for and would like to use the Edelbrock.

Finally got a little bit off an update.
Got the intake back from powder coating and my TB came in a week or so ago.

Wiring is getting there also.

Interior is completly out of the car to clean up wiring there and to install the jungle gym.

Going to be busting *** to get it all together.

Is this motor sitting at stock height? How close would that intake be to clearing a stock flat hood (even if it was a pin on flat aftermarket)

Holy crap, this is awesome. I've had 2 IROCs and was looking for a third when I moved to Virginia Beach early this year, but didn't find one I liked. I wanted to do an LSx swap. Well...I settled for a '69 Suburban and have since dropped a LM7/4L60E in it. I still have a few things to wrap up, but it should be on the road next month.

Where is that shop at in VB? I'd like to check it out sometime, and maybe bench race a turbo setup for my Burb.

Does the intake fit under the SS hood or do you need a cowl to make it fit? And are the wipers still usable?

And were the back to back dynos between the edelbrock and LS6 on a boosted motor or naturally aspirated?
