Default 6.0 ls swap on 69 camaro

Hello I got a few questions,
I got a 6.0 engine out of a 2000 model Silverado 3/4 ton with a 4l80e transmission and I want to put it in a 69 camaro. What kind of head and cam combo should I run? I want it as a daily with A/C, pump gas, and fuel injected . I don’t want it too loud, only when I step on it.

You have an LQ4 with 9.46:1 compression. Getting a pair of 243/799 heads will up that to 10.07:1 with no other changes,
Your year engine came with the smallest cam GM made (191/190, .457/.466, 114 LSA). Anything would be an improvement.
If you would like a bit of lope, get the Summit Stage 2 LS Truck Swap cam (218/227, .522/.524, 112LSA) for the low lift version, The high lift has .600 lift.
You will need new springs for either one, but both will gain a good bit of power along with the compression gained with the 243/799 heads.
This cam is a modern version of the old GM Hot Cam with better lobes.

Need more information please like:

What rear gear will your 69 camaro have?

What stall do you want to run? Stock or a little more aggressive aftermarket?

Do you want to stick to 87 octane gas or is 91 or 93 on the table?

I'd go with a set of ported 5.3 706/862 heads from Texas Speed or TEA. This will give about ~10.5 compression for a little better gas mileage. Unless your in very hot climate you should be OK on 87 since the PCM has a low octane table provided you have a competent tuner do the tune. Beat on the car, I'd run 91 or 93 etc.

(I ran a set of TEA 5.3 heads on a daily for 130,000+ miles with a couple of valve spring changes and other valve train hard ware etc with a harsh lobe cam back in the day.)

Assuming, the car will get a quality stall converter ~3,000+ and have at least a ~.3.42 rear gear, I'd go with more cam than mentioned above in a 6.0 engine. Ideally, call Cam Motion or Engine Power Systems (Geoff) or Summit etc and discuss the details for your build.

The Cam Motion Titan IV (Grind # XA227/360-XA232/350-13+4) or similar ~227/232 .612/.595 on 113 +4 LSA would be my choice. Grind # XA227/360-XA232/350-13+4
Hydraulic Roller Camshaft
Aggressive Performance
Duration at .050": 227/232
113 Lobe Center Angle with a 109 Intake Centerline
Lift with 1.7 Rocker Arm Ratio: .612"/.595"
Recommended Displacement: 5.3-6.2 Liter Engines
Cylinder Heads: Cathedral Port
Recommended Compression Ratio: 9.4.0-11.5:1
Recommended Headers: 1 3/4" - 1 7/8"
Recommended Stall Converter: 2800-4000
Recommended Rear Axle Ratio: 3.42-4.30
*Designed for factory style, or high flow aftermarket long runner intake manifolds.

The TITAN IV LS1 camshaft is designed for aggressive performance in cars using 5.3-6.2 liter LS engines equipped with cathedral port, LS1 style heads. The TITAN IV LS1 will have a light lope to the idle and strong midrange to upper RPM power. This camshaft is designed to be used for vehicles equipped with headers, high flow exhaust and increased stall speed torque converter, high flow intake systems and increased rear axle ratios.

If you are looking for an aggressive performance cam that you can daily drive or race at the track, this camshaft is a great choice.

Suggestions are based on my direct experience daily driving LS cars with various heads & cam packages and stroker engines, 150,000 + miles over the last 20+ years and other mod'd cars.

OP,

With more info on the combo and goals and it will be easier for the community to make recommendations. On the subject of being loud only when you step on it. That's more of an exhaust system thing that is subjective from one set of ears to another.

To give you an idea of the kind of info we like to have when making a recommendation check out the questions below. Some of these you've already answered.

- What is the year/make/model/engine or custom application?

- Estimated weight of the vehicle?

- What is the intended use of the vehicle? daily, Street/Strip, Strip, Auto-x, etc?

- What fuel do you intend to use or have available?

- Are you particular about the idle? If so, do you want it smooth and stealthy, Noticeable lope, or rattling windows chop?

- Are you looking for excellent driveability or are you ok to put up with some character?

- Regarding the engine. Is it all stock or have other upgrades been done or plan to be done with the cam swap? Those could be head work, new heads, new intake, headers, throttle body, etc.

- Auto or manual trans? If auto what stall converter and are you willing to change that to match the cam?

- What is the gear ratio and are you willing to change that to match the cam?

This gives you an idea of the kind of info we look for before making a cam recommendation. With info like this supplied it helps make a cam recommendation easier. We like to hone in on each customer's individual combo and goals

In my first response above, I thought I would mention mods that would be very mild, yet be fairly responsive by kicking up the compression enough to be able to still use 87 regular, plus a cam upgrade that would give a nice boost in power but still REALLY drive like stock without needing a higher stall converter.
As an upgrade from that cam, the Summit Ghost Cam came to mind.
This is a daily, so that's what I had in mind in the above suggestions.
