Default Alternator excitement issue

Im having an issue with my alternator always being excited, the alternator is a truck style 4 pin unit. The factory wiring for the alternator has not been changed and the ecu controlls the alternator fine with no check codes.

I did a volt test and am getting 2.75 volts on the brown indicator light wire when the ignition is off, if I disconnect this wire the alternator is no longer excited. There is no voltage on the field duty cycle wire.

Help!

First, I have to say that I'm not familiar with the truck style alt.
Does having that 2.5v (exciter) cause a normal charging voltage (say, 13 to 14.5v) at the battery? I was under the impression that the normal exciter voltage range was between 4 to 9 volts, and any level under the 4v was not enough to cause charging voltage.

Ok, turns out my speedometer is is backfeeding the ECU with voltage, im gonna try to place a diode inline or i can fix the issue with the speedo by not hooking up the constant power wire but i dont like this idea as the speedo is a stepper motor design and wont zero when the car is turned off.
