Default Very Oddball Conversion

I have no intentions/plans/funds/etc. to do this Anytime soon, but hey, what's the harm in dreaming or thinking? Has anyone ever swapped a Cummins into a 4th Gen F Body? I've always liked diesel's, particularly the Cummins... but Dodge trucks are POS's I'd like to have something one of a kind, and Cummins powered 4th Gen would do just the trick. So, is it possible/has it been done before? If it is possible and I could actually commit to this someday, I'd try to stay away from a 4bt because IMO they sound like complete ****.

Yeah I saw that one, I'm mostly interested in a 4th gen Cummins swap... Can't seem to find that. Also, that 6.5 diesel powered camaro had a rear mount turbo... just to add to the complexity of a diesel swap a god damn rear mount turbo, no thanks lol.

I'll bet there's no 6bt in a fourth gen those motors are just huge and heavy. I could see a duramax swap but not a Cummins that would be pointless

ALL diesels are huge and heavy, the Powerstrokes (EWW) and Dmax's are the heaviest and widest, but the Cummins would be the longest. What's wrong with a Cummins? Definitely show more durability in terms of the internals and they hang with the powerjokes and dmaxs while they're down 2 cylinders? Pretty good if you ask me, it's the POS truck chassis they come in

Cummins makes a 4BT that they put in Frito Lays vans and the like. 3.9L, 4 Cylinder, turbo. We actually swapped one into my brothers '90 Bronco two summers ago. Great little motor, doesnt take but 2 wires to run, is rated with more torque than his 351W was factory, and gets close to 30MPG. That would probably fit in an F-Body if it wasn't too tall, but you definitely won't be losing any weight, that is one heavy 4 banger.

As long as you don't mine most of the engine sticking through the hood it would be cool.

Like I said this swap won't happen for awhile if not ever.... and given I actually have the funds to commit to it, I'm sure I could afford a bigger hood Or I could be a cool guy and run no hood lol

Yeah I see plenty of diesel swapped 1st gens, the engine bays of 50s/60s/70s cars were much much bigger since they all had big blocks as options. Not to mention compared to a LOT of cars, the 4th gen engine bay isn't exactly idea for big blocks or anything larger than an LTx/LSx or something LT/LS based.

Are you just trying to bug people dude.

First you say you have no funds and then you say " actually I have all the funds to commit to it"

i wish i could find these 50s/60s/70s cars with the much, much bigger engine bays. everyone i have worked/swapped had shock towers and have very small engine bays as compared to fox mustangs and the like. good luck but you really need to check out how tall a 6bt cummins really is....

There was a guy who swapped a dmax into a 95ish mustang I'd assume that same swap could be done on a 4th gen. I doubt a cummins would work I mean with enough money anything can.

I believe the Cummins are heaviest. 12v 5.9s are around 1000lb, 24v's are over 1100lbs. And they are over 3ft long and over 3ft tall.

Duramaxs are more like 825-850lbs.

Read it ***carefully "given I actually have the funds" in an elementary school explanation means: "if somehow I could actually have that kind of money"

Those are the best cars for the hobby! Pre-smog and you have such a wide variety of motors to choose from to swap, the engine bays were crazy large.

Really? I mean thinking about it without knowing the specs, you'd think the I6 with just one head and 2 less pistons/rods/etc. would weigh less... maybe the extra weight is just the bulletproof components that give Cummins a good rep yeah I've seen how tall and long they are, the height is particularly weird, how long they are is just another typical I6. I knew the dmax's are the lightest though, they have the aluminum heads that people like to talk **** about haha.
